Well, My FH and I have decided to move our wedding up in light of the recent less-than-positive prognosis his father received. This is a very rough time for us and his family, but the wedding is now creating a nice diversion, and we're looking forward to an uplifting, beautiful day.
Our wedding, which was originally scheduled for May 4, 2002 (6 months from now) is now scheduled for December 22nd! We've been able to secure the date at our original hall/Temple, our band, photographer & florist. All have been more than accomodating. AND - my gown (that I only ordered 3 weeks ago) will be ready for me in 3 weeks at no extra charge!!
ANyway - I am running around crazy now doing 6 months worth of work in less than 2 months! Here the questions I have:
Where's a good place to get tuxedos in Nassau? THe wedding is in Roslyn & his parents live in Jericho.
I need bridesmaid dresses!! I was originally going with something in the purple family, but now it feels to springy for December. Thinking of either platinum (we'll go to Nicole Miller since her dresses can come in 2 weeks) OR I can make it easier for everyone and just have them all buy black gowns (that they'll be happy to wear again) My question is whether black (although very classy) might be morbid given our circumstances?
That's all for now. We're sending out a letter to all guests today explaining the situation (they've already received a save the date for may) and i'm ordering invitations tomorrow!
Thanks for your help!

I'm very sorry for the reasons that you have to move your wedding up, but happy for you that you are able to use all the vendors that you originally wanted. Very fortunate!
With respect to the bridesmaids' dresses, you could also go with a burgundy or dark green or navy for December. However, if you want your bridesmaids to wear black gowns, I don't think it would be morbid, and I don't think any of your guests would make a connection between the dresses and the horrible circumstances of your father in law. People don't think that way naturally.
The only reason I would stay away from black gowns, is that in pictures with your bridal party, if you have tuxedos and black gowns, it will be all black, and somewhat depressing. It's nice to have the bridesmaids in a different, elegant color. Just my opinion. I'm sure it will be beautiful whatever you choose. Good luck, and have a great time planning during these two months....

Okay, first breathe! Black is not morbid as long as you have colorful flowers. Perhaps you can add some color with gloves (since it is winter). David's Bridal has some pretty good selections and you can either buy off the rack or get the dresses pretty fast, I'm told.
Purple is a color for any season, especially if you go with a dark shade. An eggplant or dark amethyst would be darling in December. Get what you AND your girls like.
As for Tuxes, you can try Zeller on Northern Blvd in Greenvale area. They don't necessarily have stuff to try on though, so if you don't quite know what you're looking for it can be tough. We're in Pt Washington and went all the way to Farmingdale-Gino's, because they gave the extra service of trying things on and pulling out real ties and vests, not pictures.
Good luck.

I think a nice ice pink or ice blue would be pretty. I've seen some pictures of a winter wedding that used all ice pink. Or how about red? I had red for my september wedding and it came out so beautiful in the pictures. You could still pick another color and find a swatch and have the girls find their own dresses. A friend of mine did that for her wedding in June, with Navy dresses. And if they could all find pretty much the same color navy dresses then I think any color you pick would work fine. Then you don't have to worry about ordering and delivery timelines.
GOOD LUCK -- I'm sure it will all work out and be a blessed event.

I choose black dresses because after seeing several wedding photos with black BM gowns. The color is elegant and always appropriate.
If you want to add some color you could always get colored wraps to match the boquets.

I hope that your FIL is feeling okay. I am sure this is very difficult for your entire family. My prayers are with you all.
You can try Estelle's for BM dresses, David Bridals or one of my friends got beautiful dresses from Jessica McClintock (spelled all wrong) at Roosevlelt Flield. The dresses were around $170 and they ordered them in the sizes that were needed. Beautiful dresses, top quality too. Also, you can consider ordering from Chadwick's catalog or JC Penny's.
I am soo happy to hear that the vendors are all helping you so much. It will help make this difficult time a lot less stressful.

I bought Nicole miller dresses, they're expensive but very flattering, they came really quick. Two bridesmaids picked them up the same day they tried on b/c their sz was in stock-the other came in about two weeks.

Go with the platinum--it's gorgeous.
A lot of people comment on not liking black for a wedding even without your circumstances.

dresses...
I am getting married next Dec. and want my girls in black. Like someone else posted - it's what YOU feel comfortable with. I think black is elegant - and for flowers, you can do something colorful if you want, or I am thinking of having a single calla lilly handwrapped with a festive bow...but I don't think black is morbid at all...it is really a matter of opinion...but you're opinion is most important in this situation...
The best of luck with all this rushed planning, but I'm sure it will all work out in the end and you will have the most amazing winter wedding...

I did tell her you referred me...
She said you had another band booked but when you heard her band you cancellled...so you must really like them. I have a few more bands to meet with and then I'll decide-I like her better than the bands at the showcase I saw last night-the only thing is I won't get to see them live because they only showcase when going through an agency
