i need some help..WARNING LONG! UPDATE!!

Hi ladies i know its been a few weeks since ive been on.. heres whats been going on..

I got the call from the pediatric office that they wanted to hire me and that i would be able to start aug 11th. Well about 30 seconds later i got a call back from the office manager saying that she didnt want me to quit my job yet untill i worked a little in the office to make sure i liked it and that she wanted me to come in on monday.(july 28th) So thinkin she knows best and that she was just being nice i decided to go in on that monday. Well it turns out ive been working 25 hours a week since then and still at my old job 25 hours a week. and turns out I HATE THIS NEW JOB!!!!! im just starting the 2nd week and i techinaclly shouldnt even be working yet. im so disapointed in the pay and the enviorment im just not HAPPY.

so yesterday i went to my old job to finish what shoul dhave been my last week there and the boss who is much more like a friend says whats wrong... and we sat down in his office and i just let it all out. He then told me that i dont owe them
anything. I havent been there long enough. and that if im not happy i should leave especially since im too young to have a job i hate.

So heres the issue... i happend to get a call from a nursing home that i was hoping would call a few weeks ago. so i took the interview (today at 230) if it seems good i would really like to take the job and give this a shot. I'm so uncomfortable with confrontation and am afraid that when i go back to the pediatric office thats what will happen when i tell them i quit. So heres my question. Im supposed to be in one of their other offices tomorrow from 9-1 i dont think the office manager is in tomorrow and id rather not put off telling them till friday when i have to work 9-2. Can i call them and tell them over the phone? i know its prob not appropriate but i just really dont know what to do ive never been in this perdiciment(spelling) before and could really use some guidance.. my husband is no help sometimes hes like just dont go back.

Thanks in advance!

I would wait and see if you get the nursing home job after the interview. No I dont think you should do it by phone though-

It doesn't seem like there's any confrontation at all. You're still in a probationary period, it didn't work out, you don't owe the new job anything. That's the entire purpose of being there this week.

I'd tell them sooner rather than later though, so they can get a start on looking for another employee.

If you get the new job and you want to take it I personally don't see anything wrong with doing it over the phone. You have only been working there a little over a week so I don't think it's a big deal especially since you won't be using them as a reference.

Just make sure not to put it on your resume

I'd definitely wait to hear about the nursing home job first.

I agree, you are still 'on probation' at the new job. It's fine to tell them it's just not working out for you. I just wouldn't do it over the phone.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Ok, good thing is, is that she said dont quit your job just incase you dont like it, and you dont...all you have to say is that, this position is not for you and that you thank them for the opportunity and thats all...you can continue in your old job until you find something suitable for you. I was in the same situation once, I transfered to another deptartment with a better pay buy my boss was a B*tch and I couldnt work there anymore I was so scared to go to work thats how bad she was and thankfully my old department took me back...with this crazy economy your lucky you still have a job...so dont worry you will find the job of your dreams!

thanks so much girls i really appreciate it.... and jackie your right i still have my old job so i dont need to base the quitting at the new office based on the nursing home. (thank goodness) so i just wasnt sure if giving a call would be inappropriate. and seems like theres mixed feelings on it.. Thanks for all the advice.. keep it coming!

I dont think that calling is best way to quit - but its not like you need that job or have even been there long enough to use them as a reference. I would tell someone to their face but its not the end of the world to call either...

I dont think there will be any confrontation. Just tell them that you decided the job is not for you, theres nothing they can say to you, they wont yell or anything. Plus the lady told you to try it first before you decide to see if you like it. So the whole point of this was to see if you like the job, so they know theres a chance you might not take it.

Just go in and say that you thank them for the opportunity but you are looking to get into a different area of medicine and realize that now. They will understand and probably just wish you luck

I would speak to your new manager face to face and tell her - thank you for the opportunity but it is just not the right position for you. No harm, no foul. You can do this !!!

Definitely do not do it over the phone, while it's a probationary period from what you described it's never professional to just call and quit. You want to be professional, incase you ever run into anyone from that facility at another job. There is def. no confrontations since it was a trial period. Just go in and talk to the office mananger.

Well she did tell you not to quit your job yet incase you didn't like it. I guess if you mentioned you aren't happy there and don't think it's going to work out it should be fine.

I wish I could be more help but I'm not too happy with my current job situation either and I don't know what to do to get out of it.

But you haven't been there for too long and you still worked at your old job so you won't even have a gap in your resume. Just talk to the lady and tell her it's not working out.

Do it over the phone and get it over with!

You owe them nothing!

Hey Megan

I don't think they are quite considering you 'on the job' yet, because she DID want to try YOU out first. If she is in today, I would call and speak to her, tell her that you wanted to speak to her, that the job isn't what you thought it would be, and you won't be coming back, but thatnks for the opportunity. It's not like you need to be a loyal employee, you've only worked there a week!

Good luck hun!

UPDATE!!!

OH MY GOD GILRS.... i dont even know where to begin! I went on the interview it was AWESOME they offered me the job and offered me 7 dollars an hour more then the pediatric office plus 10% extra per hour for night differential.. i took the job on the spot and start 8-18

i spoke to a few of my professional friends to see how to approach the quitting of the pediatric office and they all said CALL RIGHT AWAY... soi took their and your advice to call.. heres how it went..

IT WAS A DISASTAR!!!!! SO MUCH CONFRONTATION IT WAS TERIBLE AND ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCES IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!

i was YELLED AT like a 2 year old by the manager who said I WANT A GOOD EXPLINATION TO WHY YOU LIED TO ME...(b.c during the week i had told her things were going ok) When i started the convo with.. THank you so much for this opportunity but its just not working out for me. its not what i was expecting and that i was sorry to do this so soon but would rahter let her know now then later. she proceeded to tell me how i was being unprofessional and that i need to finish the week since i had fowled up their schedule (when i had already offered to at least finish the week) and then proceeded to ask me 3more times why i was leaving when i clearly told her IT JUST WASNT WORKING OUT PERSONALLY. she yelled then hung up.. i started to cry.. 5 min later the other manager called me to AGAIN ASK ME WHY I WAS LEAVING? and i said with all due respect i already spoke with the other woman and that i dont feel i need to explain myself again. Thank you for the opportunity she then asked me 3 more times...((( HELLO IS ANYONE LISTENING TO ME!!))) then she asked if it was something they did.. i said no this was a personal reason and that the way i was just spoken to by the head manager just made me realize that my decision was correct. i then got a 3rd call to tell me that i should not come back and that i would get a check in the mail...

I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!! i've never got a better sign that i had made the right decision!!!

just thought id update you... thanks for everything girls!
