So I just found out I have a deviated septum and have to have surgery. I will find out more details and what not later on this month after a cat-scan and some bloodwork. But I looked online as to what is involved in the surgery and it seems really painful!!! I'm so nervous!!!
Has anyone had this done before? I get constant sinus infections, so far this year, I have had 5, so I need to get this done.

the surgery (from people I know who've had it) is a lot like a nose job. Pretty painful, and you'll be bruised for awhile, but you'll feel so much better afterwards... being able to breathe is a great experience. :)
I've had two deviated septum surgeries. There is pain but honestly not as bad as you probably read. I didnt have a bruised up face after like many people said. You will probably have packing in your nose but they usually take it out the next day. Dont be tpp nervous. Im really scared of needles and blood, etc. and I was able to handle it. Each day that passes you'll feel better and trust me the end results are great. The second surgery really helped me. This doctor was better than the first. If you want his info, let me know. My biggest fear is my nose is going to look different. This might sound a little vein, but I love my nose, but so scared its gonna change. The doctor says to me today 'o christine you have the cutest little nose' and my response was 'well doctor let's keep it that way or else!'

I doubt it would change. My changed but thats because my nose was broken years ago and healed incorrectly so I asked for it to be straightened.

It's not bad but it takes months for the swelling to go down completely. I've had several people in my family have this surgery and I should have as well but I don't want to I'd rather breathe funny.

I am so sorry - I know a girl who had it and i will be honest she looked like ****, couldn't breathe out of her nose for a while and she said the worst part was when she had to get the things they stuck in her nose out

Sorry you have to have surgery. I had this surgery last May. I had a deviated septum and soooooooooo many polyps. They had me on antibiotics for a month just to see if it would clear the infection before.
The surgery IMO isn't bad at all. That was my first surgery and the only this is that you have to have your bandages changed. I had packing in my nose and they took some out the next day and the rest a week after. The doctor will give you pain meds for after. I bruise so easily and I was fine just a little swollen but that went down in a week or so.
I was always stuffy!!!!! everyday no matter the weather. I had to have tissue with me at all times and FH said I used to sound like Darth Vader when I slept. After the surgery, I can actually breathe and smell.
