I need to share this with you ladies

My sister, had been watching 'Platinum Weddings' (a show I do not watch) with my mother. She tells me that upon learning that a particular bride spent $1100 per table on flowers x 40 tables, my mom said that she thought that maybe we 'skimped on flowers at the wedding'. So here I am thinking 'Gee Mom, if you have millions you are hiding, please fill me in and let me know. I'll call my accountant and set up a trust fund!' Here I thought that our flowers were incredible. Shoot they WERE incredible and they werent cheap either!

I am all for spending the money on things if you have it to spend - believe me. And to be honest, if we had $1100 to spend for each table, we would have. But contrary to what my mother thinks, we simply just can't keep up with the Trumps, Rockefellers and Hiltons. This just made me laugh to no end.

Just ETA: FH and I were watching Platinum Weddings one night (OK, so I was watching, he just happened to be in the room when it was on...) They showed the bride's dress and the designer as Lazaro and then the caption for the shot said, 'Lazaro dress - $6000 minimum.'

My dress is a Lazaro and I am a coupon-clipping Queen (expecially in prep for a wedding on Long Island) and there's no way in H--- I would pay $6k for a dress. I don't know where these shows get their information, but I bought my new Lazaro on Long Island for way less than that! FH almost fell off the couch - he knows my dress is Lazaro but he didn't know how much they 'cost.
Oh, yeah, no way I'd spend $1100 on centerpieces, either. I think ours are about $10/table!

its whatever makes you happy....soem people have the money and some people don't...some people are able to spend it and some can't..its all about what the person wants...each its own...i thought i would never spend that type of money on my dress but i saw it fell in love and couldn't resist...you know if you can and you know if you can't...i spend 8K on my flowers and loved them, if they were 2k i still would of loved them...but i was able to spend a little extra on what I wanted.....just my opinion!

I agree with you both one million times over and that was my point in my original post. I just found the whole thing funny considering that we DID spend a lot of money on flowers. My wedding was a fantasy and I was very lucky, blessed and thankful to have been able to have what we did have. I just think that was Mom's way of showing envy or admiration for a lifestyle we were not destined for. Nothing wrong with that! We have all fantasized about what we would do if we won the lottery. I would buy a house. I guess mom would have paid $1100 per table for flowers - to each their own! She's too much!
