I sent out my STD's and my co-worker just came to me an told me that she will attend my ceremony and cocktail hour but she is not staying for the reception because her husband will feel uncomfortable because he doesn't know anybody. She also has never been to a Christian ceremony before so she wants to come. Meanwhile I am inviting most of the people in my department and they won't know anyone either. What do you think about this? I can use their place for other family members in the reception but what do I do about cocktail hour? I need advise on this because I am a little annoyed. Am I overreacting?

I would definitely be a little annoyed. It is cool that she is coming for the ceremony, but to only stay for the cocktail hour? If he was so uncomfortable to stay for the reception, then how come they are even bothering coming to the CH? I think it is a little strange for a grown man to be scared to try and meet new people. I would def be annoyed.

Please don't take this the wrong way. There is a lot of time between now and your wedding day, and things could change. When you receive her RSVP card from your invitation, simply politely confirm with her that she will not be eating at the reception, in whatever way you feel comfortable, and then leave her off the seating chart for the reception. If she shows up and stays for dinner, they'll add her last minute and you'll have to pay for her. It would be SO rude if she did that, and then you could get angry, but at this stage in the game, I would wait it out and not worry about it.

I think you should respect their wishes. A lot of people would probably decline the invite totally. So it was actually nice that they are attending even though they feel uncomfortable.

Just don't tell your hall they're coming to the CH. They won't do a head count, so they'll never know. When you have a bter gauge at how many work people are going to come you can let this woman know that you will be having a table just for work peopl and her husband won't be the only one meeting people for the first time. Aside from doing that, there's nothing else you can do.

Yea I agree. Although it was a slightly weird response, I would wait to see how she RSVPed, since she is married she would know about the whole 'head count' thing, which more or less counts for the reception.

thanks for the feedback everyone..... however, I told her that my boss and others were going to be there (At least that's what they told me for now) and they would not be alone. I asked her to just let me know ahead of time since she knows that I have a huge list, then she told me that are defenitely not staying for the reception.

That sounds like a strange response, but hey, different strokes for different folks!!! See what happens when the day gets closer.
