i needed

a good debate after today's stressful events.

I am enjoying the Catholic Church post on BHB.

Interesting debate- great, valid points Jen. I completely agree with you!

seriously!! people need to think before they speak/write. If they did, the might realize how closed minded they sound (and quite possibly are). My wedding did not revolve around anyone else's life especially not such an establishment.

I jumped in.

Of all things to complain about... (and I mean there's been some girls on here complaining about church but I don't know if its a Cath. church or not) the church should seriously be the last part.

You are asking them to marry you. You could go anywhere. It's the actual most important part of your wedding. Maybe not the part you're most excited about (Um, right here LOL) but the only part that actually matters.

The part you say I, me give myself to you, person. Forever and ever.

I'm a proud Catholic. I like learning about other religions and what not but... I opted to be a Catholic. Went through RCIA just last year.

Yep, that is the best thing that I learned about switching from an RH ceremony to a Church ceremony: the ceremony-the actual marriage-is more important than everything else by far.

Doing that also made me feel very proud to be Catholic, and has really changed the way that I look at my faith.

Re: i needed

People just like to complain. I was raised Catholic and for personal reasons I didn't want to deal with the church so I didn't get married in one. I didn't sit there complaining that they have rules and whatnot. It's the friggin Roman Catholic Church, they're not going to change their rules and ideology just because I disagree with them and want to get married there. It's just like people who are Jewish, there are rules and certain dates/days you can't get married. I don't understand what the issue is. If it really matters so much change the date of your wedding. If it doesn't matter then get married at the RH where you can have your guests throw petals and rice and beans or whatever else at you...

I just burst out laughing when you said rice and beans.

I really respect that even though you didn't get married in a Church, you aren't running around saying what an awful place it is to get married and how they are evil. I think that's awesome.

Thanks... yeah just because I don't agree with some of the teachings of the church I'm not going to go around bad mouthing it. My personal beliefs and experiences are no reason to bash something that MILLIONS of other people believe in. When I have to go to church for a wedding or baptism etc I will still say the prayers and sing the songs. I won't go up to receive communion because I believe it is something that is special and means something to so many people and I wouldn't want to lessen it by just going through the motions, plus you should have gone to confession before receiving and who knows the last time I did that (but see I'm a good house guest, I follow the rules). I guess it's a respect thing. I think people should always respect others beliefs even if they don't happen to agree with them.
