i rarely ask for help ...

hi,
ok, i have been putting off looking for a florist for a very long time. my wedding is in august and i have booked all the big things besides this. the thing is, i have NO MOTIVATION for these flowers. flowers have never excited me (it's more the concept of receiving flowers rather than the flowers themselves thag get me!). so ... can anyone help me get into gear with this flower thing!?

My advise is to bring a friend or family member who loves flowers with you when meeting with florists. They willl be able to help you a lot on those meetings.
I booked Burtons, and also met with Laura's in Commack- which was very nice but about $1k more than Burtons. Both had lots of books to look at and were (are) helpful.

Hiya Miro127. What I did was find a florist who I thought was creative and pleasant to work with, told them my colors and some general indicators of style, and then let them just run with it. I believe this is a good philosophy rather then stressing out about coming up with an idea. Many florists are amazingly talented and know what will work in your space better then you would. So don't worry about learning the ins and out of arrangements, just hire someway great and let them figure out what will work!!! I loved the results.

If you are looking for referrals I used In Full Bloom, and thought they were great.

We booked with Burtons. They were very nice and helpful with us as I wasn't sure what kind of bouquets I wanted. They make beautiful arrangements and their prices are very reasonable.

if you're not into flowers, why don't you check out other centerpiece options, like candleabras or something? then all you have to pick out is your bo k's. I did just simple red roses and I thought they looked very nice with my white dress. (someday I will post pics!)

that's a nice idea from jpsgirl. in August you can do bowls of fruit, or just a grouping of candles with some rose petals around - it doesn't have to be flowers!

Does anyone know if you do a candleabra with rose petals (or something) does the hall set this up for you or do you have to get someone to do it for you?

I read somewhere where a bride had mini ice scupltures instead of flowers and she said it was around the same cost!

you can probably rent candleabras from a rental place and i am sure the hall would do it. You would have to supply them with rose pteals - but you can get them from any local florist

I'm with Novemberbride...we are using Burton's as well. I found them cheaper than everyone else and the reason why was because they are weddings only. They are not a typical florist in that they do Valentine's Get Well, Christmas etc...they are solely weddings. He said that every weekend they have their specific wedding order, and what isn't used, they throw out on Monday and start over...keeps their overhead down. I met with John, who was a doll. I'd check them out. We got our altar flowers, pew bows, 13 centerpieces, a cascading bouquet for me, BM bo-ks and all the usher bouts etc for the same price other places were quoting me for no altar flowers, smaller bo-ks, and a bigger centerpiece. Thrilled: could you let me know the APPROX cost Burtons charges for what you are having. I know the flowers will differ so the prices will to but you are having the exact things that I need and I have no idea of the cost of flowers Thanks so much!!

I, too, didn't really know what I wanted in flowers...I just knew the colors I wanted...I had a family friend do them (Towers Flowers in N Babylon) and I went in...showed him some pictures of the shapes and colors I liked...and he overexceded my expectations!! I was so psyched...since I barely thought about flowers while planning...
