It's finally starting to hit home that I'm actually leaving here! I resigned effective 6/6! I will be starting the NYC Teaching Fellows program on 6/16. It was a very hard decision, but something I feel I must do. I've been at my current job for 6 yrs and kind of grew up here!! I thought about teaching for a few years and now that I'm married, my future is quickly approaching! It's amazing how your priorities change after marriage! My main concern now is my DH and getting established for a family. Weird how that's changed from my main priority being ME!! I'm nervous about the fellowship program, but I'm trying to keep an open mind and a positive attitude! Wish me luck!!

Thats great!
Just curious - do you have to work in the 'bad' schools if you are a fellow?

Re: I resigned!! :(
Well.....technically, we are supossed to go to 'hard to staff' schools, however, we were placed in divisions which are comprised of districts and I was placed in an area in Bklyn that was made up of district 13,14,15,16. 2 of those are not so good, 2 are not that bad. It's kind of a toss up. Also, if I can get a job in one of the better schools on my own, I am allowed to. It's just a matter of selling myself enough that a principal would want to hire me to fill their vacancy(if they even have one.) That's the stressful part I'm going through now, trying to get to as many schools as I can in the better areas! Many of them don't even know about their vacancies yet either, another obstacle! Hopefully it will all work itself out!

Re: I resigned!! :(
Well I left my first 'real' job I cried for a week! It was so scary to leave a job I knew so well for a new venture, but after I started my new job and got over the first few weeks of 'scary' I really knew my decision was for the best. Sometimes change is hard, but very often it is good for us all.

Re: I resigned!! :(
I got a call for an interview at a school in district 15. PS 15 in Red Hook. I'm excited, but nervous. I know these schools are not in the best areas, but someone told me yesterday that the school is across the street from the housing projects and that about 2 years ago the principal went to meet w/a parent there and got caught in a shoot out and was killed!! I'm trying to stay calm, but I don't know how good I am at dodging bullets
Any advice on this? Please pray for me!!!
