I say left, she says right. Front? Back. Round? Square.

Original post by Shorty McBride

Frankly, I'm sick of my FMIL.

I've been with FH for 7 years. She's never been the most pleasant person in the world, but MAN - she's getting worse and worse as this wedding gets closer.

This weekend, FILs showed up for my grad party...they said hello to my family, got food -then sat in a separate room, ate, and left. When a member of my family asked FMIL how she was doing, she snapped back, 'NOT GOOD', and that's it....

So my family member is being cordial and starts making conversation with the FILs...she said (to them), 'You must be getting excited - the wedding is getting closer and closer everyday! 6 months now, right?'
FMIL snapped back with 'THAT'S NOT CLOSE. 6 MONTHS IS A LONG TIME, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.'

Come on now...who does this?!

Last week, she put down my invitations - called them boring and ugly.

She is constantly throwing out digs about how I'm limiting her guestlist. Excuse me, all of the family is invited, but I am NOT inviting your former co-worker, simply because you gave their son a wedding gift 8 years ago. She has more guests than my parents, and US - and guess who's paying?!?! NOT HER, that's for sure!

She pries info out of FH by snooping around his things, and then talks to people all over town about it. I get myspace comments from the children of her former co-workers (yes - NOT INVITED!) referencing PRIVATE DETAILS of my plans!

She keeps telling people that I had to pick a WEIRD date and ruin Thanksgiving for her....and that her entire extended family is mad at me because I ruined Thanksgiving. (Our wedding is the night after Thanksgiving.)

Last month, she said that they (FMIL and FFIL) were going to Atlantic City for Father's Day. A friend of ours is getting a few rooms in Montauk that weekend, so we told him we'd go. SUNDAY, at my graduation party, FH is talking about Montauk, and his mother blurts out - you better be home, son - it's Father's Day. FH said, 'But you said you weren't going to be around, so we made other plans.' She comes back with, 'You best be changing your plans, sonny boy, [WTFFFF- WHO SAYS THAT] or you'll just have to live with the guilt. We can never know which Father's Day will be the last.'

HOLY MOTHER OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST - pray for me.

I am not one to be bothered by what others say...but I just keep wearing down and wearing down....and its starting to really get to me!

You are not turning into bridezilla at all...i do not know how you've been dealing with her thus far. The whole black dress thing, just reinforces the fact that she may very well be clinically depressed.

I know all youve done is keep letting this go, but imo i think any sort of confrontation right now will only add fuel to the fire, this is something you should avoid at all costs before your wedding. However, after your wedding is over, well thats a different story

Anyway, thanks so much for the hugs.

I was starting to think I was bridezilla or something, by the way she's treating me.

I can't believe I forgot this part....she hasn't thought about starting to look for a dress yet....but she knows that she definitely wants to wear black because she's 'losing her little boy'.

all i have is to send your way....dont let it break you just focus on all the positive that surrounds the wedding, not the negative a.k.a FIL's

oh man, that's terrible, i'm so sorry you have to deal with this. i just don't understand why moms can't be happy for their sons and just keep their big mouths shut and let things happen!

People like that want to be miserable. She expects people to let her down, so she makes it come true by being as nasty as possible so no one wants to make her happy. I feel sorry for her. But I feel more sorry for you and your FH.

I hate to say this though, but she is right about how you never know what could be the last Father's (or Mother's) Day--my FH lost his mother to cancer last November (on Thanksgiving.) On Mother's Day a year ago she was perfectly healthy--overweight and with medical problems, but healthy.

My advie to you: find out where they really are going t o be on Memorial Day weekend. You can't let her ruin your relationsip with your FH. If they're actually going to be away, she's just trying to control you, and don't allow her to do that. It would just get worse during your marriage.

Good luck!

She is pure evil!!!! I am so sorry but I can feel your pain!!!
My FIL's are evil too. It actually got to the point that i was fighting with FH about his mother cuz of her stupid remarks and comments and he has talked to his mother a million times and it doesnt work. Now I know this is not the right thing to do but I just wont go over and see her thats the only way i can be happy during the planning. We invited her over for mothers day and she was alright we showed her the invites and she was more interested in the directions we put in the invitation than the invitation itself and I just let it go I have to.
Hang in there!!!!

jesus w t f?!! im so sorry.. what a nut
Listen, youre marrying HIM, not his family. Its nice to have good in-laws, but again, youre not marrying them. But i'd still say something to FH about his nut of a mom. & make sure he tells her to calm the f down!

You're right - we can say something 100 times, and it doesn't do ANYTHING.

I'm keeping my distance until her medication is working.

I am so sorry, I thought my FMIL was being a pain but at least we get along and shes always agreeing with me on things. . I cant believe that, that is so awful that is reall a monster in law. . . keep your head up though remember your wedding day belongs to you. . . . . no one else. . . so dont let anyone get you down. . . I am sure your invites are awesome and i wouldnt let what she says get to you ,, you like what you like and if she doesnt who cares as long as you and the FH are together done worry about the rest of the world. . . .

She sounds like quite a piece of work. Your best bet is to roll your eyes and ignore her.

If you have to say something have FH do it. . .she'll always forgive her son- but you don't want to become 'that woman her son married' instead of her DIL.

Good Luck with this one- good thing 6 months really isn't that long

Hugs and prayers for you.

What a horrible person your FMIL is. The best this is to ignore her until the wedding and to have FH NOT TELL her any details of what is going on.

Just let any of her comments slide off of you,
Remember the kiddie saying :
I'm like rubber, you're like glue
Everything bounces off of me and sticks on to you !

Believe me, others will see exactly how boorish this woman is. Wearing a black dress to her son's wedding because she's losing her little boy? I'd hand her a pair of scissors to cut the umbilical cord.

I'm like rubber, you're like glue.......
Keep repeating this in your head eveytime this woman speaks ! It will help keep your sanity....

OMG, she sounds awful! My best suggestion would be to eliminate her from all the wedding details. I wouldn't mention a thing to her Anyone who complains about someone's wedding date is ridiculous! My feeling is either come or don't, but please don't complain about the freakin' date! Hang in There

OMG! I don't really know what to say, but lots of I hope it gets better. The last thing you need 6 months away from the wedding is all the little comments from her

Re: I say left, she says right. Front? Back. Round? Square.

Basicly she's probably depressed because your taking away her son. She'll have to deal with it, she has NO other choice!!! It's you he chose to answer to, his HS days are over, NOMORE answering to mom!! And to tell you the truth, I don't answer to my mother anymore. I'm a grown adult, just as he is. Apparently, she doesn't realize her litle boy has grown into a man, who wants to succeed and start his own life. I can't say I'm in your shoes, because I have the best in-laws. And to be quite frank, I don't think her medication will ever work, knowing that her son will be successful, and happily married, without her. Good luck anyway
