I see that some of you work in HR...

I see that some of you work in HR...

I have been working in public relations for approximately 5 years and am very interested in getting into human resources. I think that a lot of the skills required for HR are similar to PR (writing, organization, ability to deal with all kinds of personalities).

So far, all of the positions I have seen require direct HR experience. I can't really take a pay cut right now (we just got married and bought a co-op -- so the assistant positions are out of the question.

Any ideas on how I can get my foot in the door? Or do you know of any executive recruiting agencies that specialize in HR? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

I work in advertising HR and ad agencies / PR firms love to hire former Ad and PR people to recruit for them because they know the ins and outs and what type of person the hire needs to be.

I have an HR recruiter contact at home - FM me and I will look when I get home.

They are very similar - the PR team and my team work very closely together.

It may just mean rephrasing some things on your resume.

Do you want a recruiter in the city or on the island?

I used Maximum Management with some success. I had a Master's Degree in HR, but no experience, so it still made it hard to get in the door. Grrr.

The girl I used was named Nicole Consenz, but I'm not sure if she is still there. She actually helped a lot of my friends get into HR.

Hope this helps!

A couple of other HR recruiters -
Nancy Jackman at Winmar 687-8977
Adrienne Weingarten 973-379-3200 (in NJ but has NYC jobs)

Also, go to www.shrm.org/jobs
Its the society for human resources website and there is a whole job posting section there. Good luck!
