mine looked on a caldander, said 'lets get married this day'. my mother went to the department store and bought a dress, she and her cousin did her hair.
my father wore jeans and a black t-shirt with a leather jacket ()
they went to town hall and got a JoP and license then got married in my front yard and had a bbq in the back.

they were just telling me that they just played a radio and that was their 'DJ'... because i asked what their wedding song was.

Mine planned it in a month cause they are sinners!

Technically speaking, I was at their wedding!

My mom said her planning process was quick and painless. She can't believe how much junk we have to deal with! She even did her own hair the day of!!

My Nana planned there wedding. At the legion, since they belonged there and cost them nothing.

She spent $300 on cocktail napkins, I heard.

So did my mom and make-up! And she did her BM's hair and make-up!

My grandmother sewed my mom's dress and all the BM dresses, too! And I thought I did too much DIY!

YEah, weddings today, espcially on LI, are not what they were 25-30 years ago.

My mom had 100 people at Koenings in NHP, paid 17 and change for prime rib and had a beautiful day. And that was a decently nice wedding for that time. I'd get laughed at by people if I tried to do that now.

my parents planned (or better say my gramma planned) their wedding in then Soviet Union. by everything I hear it was super stressful cause it was for that time a very nice wedding. thru my gramma's connections (she worked in the catering business) they were able to get best of every food (they had it catered) and best alcohol. of course they had to give out a lot of 'tips' (read bribes) to have all of that
they even had way more guests than I did
but obviously they didnt have any cute extras and little touches we do now

so to answer ur question, I guess ppl used to book vendors and do everything thru ppl they knew and thru connections

My parents got hitched after 3 dates.. so I can only imagine their wedding planning.

Oh and my FIL's have a video of their wedding.. and it looks awesome. We watch it every year on their anniversary.

When I got married the 1st time (1989) we got all our vendors by word of mouth and the yellow pages. I have no idea how we did it then. There also wasnt a registry back then (if there was I didnt know about it) I had made a list out and gave it to my mother and when people called for shower gifts she would give them ideas on what I wanted.

Thank goodness for the internet now!!
