i should be happy but im not

so last night FH and I get a puppy, YAY i should be soo happy, but im not, all i have is this big knot in my stomach.

ok so heres the story, it might a little long, but i have to get it out.

so we bring the puppy home last night and FHs grandparents flip out (we live in the basement apartment) and i have this hugh knot! so we decied at 10 last to call the guy and bring the dog back. as soon as we droped the dog the knot went away, but i could tell FH was upset. so today FH goes to work can tell hes depressed and wants the dog back, and im hoping that he talks to his grandparents and they say no to the dog, well i get home today and fall alseep. i wake up to FH 'what are you doing, are you sad that we dont have a puppy? (yes im sad but then im not, its such a weird feeling that i have) he proceds with well i talked to my grandparents and they said yes and the dog is outside. i was like WHAT?!?!?!. now all the emotions come back, im happy to see him but then im not. all i think about is all the work we have to do now and all the training and all the money.

why couldnt he just wait till after the wedding? and i wanna tell him how i feel but i know hes gunna be upset, he is soooooo attached to this dog its crazy. i have never seen him like this at all.

do you think i just feel overwheled with the wedding 38 days away? i think after the wedding i will be fine, its just all this emotion all at once, my head is in sooo many different directions. ugh!!

i dont know, im just thinking now we have to worry about this dog we go away and we got out, ugh this sucks.

i should be happy but i have been doing is crying. tell me everything will be ok.

thanks for reading this whole thing if you made it all the way down here, i just feel like you guys are the only ones that can understand.

I am very familiar with your knot. FH and i were sooo close to getting a dog and we even put a deposit down. I had that knot.

In our case, we didn't end up getting the dog. I think dogs are a lot of work, especially in the beginning, BUT i don't know anyone who regrets having a dog. you will LOVE LOVE that dog. maybe not today or within the next 38 days, but once the wedding is over you'll be so glad you have him.

well, that is a little odd he'd want this puppy so badly close to the wedding, because yes, the training is something mandatory. we just had this same issue, only with cats. lol

we live in a tiny apartment and now we have 4 (someone dumped them on the door of my apartment building, no joke). for maybe a day i felt like I was ready to give them up to someone else, but i grew attached and FH couldnt understand. I begged, cried, PLEADED, finally after a week he stopped nagging and grew to love them. (they practically follow HIM around when we're home together). he just didnt understand how, or WHY, i became so attached so quickly.

im guessing its your stress and it's added another section on your plate. maybe its a sign for you to relax and enjoy something non wedding related? i dunno. i wouldn't get too hyped up over the dog, it can actually be a really good thing......other than the training....

but, if FH isn't actively involved in ur planning, id make it clear that the dog is his priority for the next 38 days or so. lol. that;s just me. lol.

are you going on a honeymoon? who is going to take care of during that time? I am sure you'll be attached to the dog soon too.... dont worry

I understand. we just got 2 puppies and i still have the knot. I love the puppies so much and wouldnt give them back for anything but it is very unsettlng and takes some getting used to. From what I hear, it gets so much easier once they get older so just hang n there!!

I was really nervous when I first brought home my puppy. It gets so much better. The best advice I can give you: crate him!

A dog is a huge responsibility. Dont feel bad worrying about that.

Ive always had a dog and i couldnt live without one but i will tell you its not cheap. My husky has cost me the price of a cheap new car in vet bills. I wouldnt not have him though. I love him so much.

Who's watching the dog while youre away? What prob happened is FH was offered the dog suddenly and got excited.

Once its trained youll love the furball lol

this may be a good thing. Pets prepare you for children later on.
IDK if you guys have talked about that yet but taking care of a pet is good practice. I'm sorry ur feeling that way about the dog but it seems like a catch 22 in ur situation: damned if u do damned if u don't.
Sounds like the knot ur feeling is related to the responsibility of having a pet that is dependent on you guys. Beyond that, I thing this will be a good thing in the long run b/c this puppy will love you unconditionally.

I felt that way when we first got our dog and it was my idea. My dog was already mostly trained b/c he is a rescue but it still required an adjustment period. In a few weeks you should settle in and the knot should go away. Consider crate training your puppy it will help house break him and it will keep him from chewing your house.

Everything will be great. Yes it will be a lot of work with training and boarding when you go away but in the end you will love this puppy like its your child

Good luck with him!!!

I remember always wanting a puppy when I was younger, and then when it was finally going to happen I remember getting that nervous feeling, thinking to myself, 'is this the right thing'. Trust me, they become a part of your family so fast and you'll love that puppy like it's your child. Give it some time and see how it goes. If not you can always find a loving home for the puppy later on., which is how we got our dog years ago after a family had her for 2 years.

Well... do you want a dog? Is this something you've wanted?

If so, then I think it's just wedding day stress. One month before your wedding is NOT ideal to go out and get a dog. I would talk to FH and explain that you are stressed and really busy with the last minute wedding details and that if he seriously wants this dog he's gonna have to step up and take care of it- and not just feeding/walking it- this is a PUPPY it's going to have to be trained!

As an avid dog lover, I wouldn't be able to say no though, especially seeing how happy FH is with the pup!

Re: i should be happy but im not

Similar to my conversations about dogs w/FH.
I want a dog now. No, correction, I wanted a dog for our appartment a month ago when our lease started!!! lol I'm leaving my Bailey dog home w/my mom and have never ever lived without a dog in my entire 27 years on this earth. It's very strange to me to not hear a dog collar around the house or have him greet me at the door.
Anyway, FH and I talked and although he loves dogs and def wants to get one he said, 'No.. I'm sorry but we're not getting a dog until we have a house. I don't want to deal with the responsibility at this moment.' Our apt doesn't allow dogs but I know if I asked they would let us since it's a new policy and others who live there have small dogs.

So yeah... since he's so adamant about NOT having a dog right now I gotta give in. I think you gotta talk to FH about how you're feeling so that it doesn't come out later on in another form. It could be wedding stress but you gotta keep in mind that if it's a puppy you can't be out all the time while it's young, potty training, teaching it to walk on the leash, and all the other things that come along with a dog.
