Ugh - I can't look at that picture. I got bed bugs in my apt in NYC b/c my neighbor was INFESTED and did nothing. They started coming through the walls - talk about nightmare. Right out of a scary movie.

Just some advice for anyonw who might have this kind of problem. For now, I think we've gotten rid of our problem.

All of your clothing and sheets need to be washed in 120 degree water or hotter, and then dried on the hot cycle. I would consider throwing out the suitcases. Anything that you can't wash, either dry clean, or put in the freezer in a plastic bag for as long as you can stand to not use it.

There are exterminators that will give you a guarantee that they will get rid of the bugs and will come back as many times as it's needed to do so. I would find one of them.

Does your bed have legs? What my FH and I did was make moats for the legs of our bed. Basically, take a large plastic tupperware container and put a smaller one inside of it. The leg of the bed goes in the small container and fill the larger one with soapy water. Keep them filled. Basically, the bugs can't get to you in your bed cuz they can't swim.... it's working for us so far.

Also - keep all of your clothing off the floor and anything that you wear to bed, throw in the wash. Dont wear stuff around the house and then into bed. It creates a lot of laundry, but you've gotta get rid of the bugs ASAP.

I know the throw up feeling. It seems like a daunting task but you'll get through it. I hope this helps!!!!

yes, this is becoming a very common problem. it was on the news-- i guess it's just from not being clean enough but the news said there have been outbreaks ALL over and so many in the past few months-- to a year.

sorry, i don't know what to suggest other then call your doctor about it.

Contrary to what people think, getting bed bugs is usually not from the place being dirty. NYC currently has a HUUUUGE problem with them, something to do with the ban on certain ingredients in insecticides.

Someone could have stayed in the hotel room before you and had them in their suicase, or as mentioned above, they crawl from a neighbor's apartment into yours...

My best advice is to call an exterminator who is experienced with bed bugs. It seems they have to do more than just set off a bomb from Home Depot.

I would definitely see if the hotel will compensate you for some of the expense of exterminating!

Try not to panic! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, but it can be taken care of! FM if we can help.

actually... she didn't block any rooms for guests. I just always stay at this hotel chain when I go anywhere since I'm a part of their rewards program, so I found this one on my own. I'm still shocked about it!

Thanks for all the advice, ladies! I'm so upset about this... I don't ever want to stay at a hotel again! SO GROSS! And to think of all the money and headaches this will now cost to take care of!!! I hope the hotel will do right by me on this or else I may take it further... we'll see.

OMG Sarah.... I saw a 'sick' story on the news about this last month. Call the Dr. and got something for yourself to stop the itching because you can scar bad from them.
Secondly, call pest control. I think you may have to have the house sprayed.
I can not believe it. Feel better soon and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so terrible! I was actually going for a weekend to the area, which hotel did you stay in?

i have a suggestion at least for your mattress, comforter and pillows. Go to Bed Bath and Beyond and buy allergy covers -- they encase everything completely and zip up on the sides. They are expensive, like 100$ for a mattress cover, but I would assume if dustmites adn allergens cannot penetrate, bedbugs cant either! I use them for my bad allergies on my bed... They are cotton on the outside and have some plastic-like cover on the inside. I would imagine that would help.

I'm soooo sorry to hear this!! I know it's not the same but I've been invaded by fleas and I know how itchy and annoying they are so I can only imagine what bed bugs are like!! We called Arrow Exterminators and they come in and spray and keep you under guarantee for 6 months...we had them come back one week later after what seemed to be a re-infestation and they did on the same day of my call with no problem!! Hope this works out for you and you may need to go to your doc and just get a cream...betamethasone...it's stronger than OTC Cortisone...I highly recommend it! It's been my savior!! I'm here if you need and keep me updated!!


P.S.---Kicker is I've had dogs all my life....my dog passed last year and we got fleas from strays giving birth to kittens in our basement window well!! GO FIGURE!!
