I SURVIVED MY FIRST DAY!

I SURVIVED MY FIRST DAY!

at preschool...I am in the 2 year old room....I work 10-6 with no lunch break (the kids sleep for about 2 hours anyway). The lead teacher is absolutely horrible, she didn't acknowledge me in any manner, and from her other 2 assistants, she doesn't even follow the lesson plans she posts outside her door. I *may* be inline for her job, judging from what I *feel* as I talked with the director on Friday. The lead teacher leaves at 2pm, and the 1 assistant leaves at 4 and then it's me and another assistant basically 'babysitting' these 16 2 year olds!!! SO not right!!!

EEEkkkk...that doesn't sound right at all. It sounds like it could be illegal, 1 person with all those babies. Just keep an eye out, if you see things that are going on that shouldn't. Too many innocent children are hurt in situations like this, jus because the preschool or day care wants the money.

wow! I hope it gets better! Does not sound like your class is in 'ratio'. For the lead teacher not to follow plans also causes more for a 'hectic' day. I am a 2 year old teacher and the day goes very smoothly if you follow the plans and get the kids into a routine. When my kids hear the 'cart' coming they know its time to 'eat, eat', some clean up and walk to the bathroom to have hands washed..(notice I only said 'some') Others, we are chasing around the room or we let them sit with a book until they decide they are ready to join us.
Its a very tough job! We dont get paid enough (all preschool, daycare teachers) but I love it so much! I love my munchkins
Wish you the best of luck. I'm sure it will get better!!

Congrats!
Is the pay better then NY? I did it for a while about 8-9 years ago, but the basically had the assistants maintaining the classes, running around and I was paid $6.75 an HOUR!! And the head teachers sorta relaxed...I hope you find your way into the head teacher role!
