i think I found my dress(es!), but I am kind of freaking out.

Okay, here is the dress dilemma:
I tried on a sample Amsale last week that was gorgeous - and marked down from 4K to 1,200. (eek!) I put it on hold. i LOVED everything about it, except one thing : The weight. It felt really heavy on. The seamstress assured me that once she cuts off the 12 or so inches from the bottom (I am a midget) and takes out some of the crinoline, it will feel much better. My mother thinks one of the reasons I really want the dress is because of the label and the fact that it looks like a VERY expensive peice. I'll admit it...I am a bit of a label whore. But the dress is STUNNING. Another thing: It needs cleaning from being a sample and this makes my mother very uncomfortable - there are a few small stains and some dirt around the neckline - I know it would come out but buying a dirty dress is scary.
It is an old model dress and I can't find a pic anywhere, but looks something like the first one below: It's Silk satin, Alcecon (?) lace around the waist and bottom, ivory, box pleats, long train.
Then, I go and try on a Maggie yesterday and fall in love. It's the Chantilly (I HATE the way the model looks in it - it is so much prettier in person.) I LOVE everything about it except: I am doubting whether the style is too fancy for my outdoor vineyard wedding. It's very black tie to me - but I felt amazing in it. I know I can 'pull off' anything I want because I am the bride, but I just don't want to look silly coming down the grass aisle of my supposedly casual wedding in a huge sparkly thing - you know?
I was just hoping for some thoughts from the 05-ers (I know alot of you have maggies as well, so that helps to hear your input) and just general 'what to do' guidance in the situation. I have to make a decision by tomorrow- they will nt hold the Amsale any longer.
Any thoughts ?
can anyone make the Maggie bigger?

I was also torn between two gowns....Think of which one you can picture yourself wearing on your wedding day. I personally love the bodice on the Amsale.....However, I would be worried about the cleaning aspect. Follow your heart and let us know what you'll decide.

Hey there, just wanted to say both are beautiful! I know that is absolutely no help. I will say though that I LOVE the amsale but have to agree with the others about the cleaning. Maybe you can speak to a cleaner first to find out their success getting stains out of that type of material? Just a thought... And I don't think either are too dressy for the vineyard!! Once the ceremony is over, you'll be inside the place and all elegant-ed out!! (I made up a word.

Okay- I am older so I will be the voice of reason Get the Maggie- comfort always comes first. The amsale is beautiful but IMO I would much rather be able to boogie Oh, I love them both too. I think you will be happier and less stress free with the Maggie though. I just see posts in the future about problems with cleaning, oh my God, my dress is ruined, etc. Trust the old lady

As much as I won't admit it, old ladies are always right in the end! (And you are so not old - Especially with your cutie bangs youv'e got going on!)
this is helpful...

I always worry if a dress makes my butt look too fatty -- so be careful when you make your final choice.
Yes, I will be VERY VERY careful - no fatty here!

I love the first dress! It is so gorgeous!
I think it will tie in perfectly with the look you are going for.
I can see the pictures at the vineyard with this dress!

I would guess that if you are even considering the Amsale - it must be in pretty good shape. I would say go with that one - the only thing I would note would be if the dress was pulled out of shape or something - I know some of the dresses I tried on were so out of shape it was almost hard to tell how they would look if they were new.
They are both beautiful - and appropriate for an outdoor wedding.
Oh - and I really like how silk photographs

being let off the hook by bunny is so freeing. I can now scrounge the boards and highlight for you all free from accusation!

oh randella!
I am about to have an anxiety attack. I don't want to admit it, but to be honest, I don't think the Amsale is the one. It is so pretty, but so heavy. I just keep thinking of being weighed down while standing in this hot vineyard. Also, I called around for cleaning, and it will be at least $150.00, as well as $300 or so in major alterations!
Now that I have let go of the Amsale, I think I don't even want the Maggie anymore. I don't know why, I just feel like starting fresh and seeing if 'the one' jumps off at me - The maggie is always available to order from Bridesave if i don't find anything else!
I am a little sad. But trying to keep the faith...

Bunny- did you try Maggie's Paulette- its so comfortable and with a cathedral veil it could still look dramatic. I loved it- check it out...(without the straps).

yes! ckgm - I remember you reccomending it, and I love the pic. But the few stores I have been to that carry Maggies don't carry that one...?? Where did you try it on?

Rk Bridal in Manhattan! Now I remember I did tell you about this dress. I'm telling you you won't turn back once you see how comfy it is and beautiful too. The price for this dress on Netbride is incredible!

Bunny, you will find the dress and don't worry about how long it takes you to find it (unless it's like 1 month before your wedding that is). I tried on at least 45 dresses before I found my dress. I actually tried on about 3 dresses after I found it, but I found myself comparing all the other dresses to that one. I found my dress at the second to last store that I went too. Just last week I was having doubts about it, but I went back to the store to look at it and I was like, YEP that's it. I don't know if you will neccessarily have the 'That's the ONE' feeling, but if you find yourself comparing EVERYTHING else to it, then you know you found it.
Good luck and have fun looking. When else will you get to try on a bunch of dresses and not irrate anyone?
