The first one looks too poofy. The back of your dress is gorgeous and you want to show that off instead of all that layered bustle. I think the 1st pic in the second set of pics you posted would look beautiful.

Can you use an intricate bustle with an a-line dress?

I have a long train (pics of my dress are in my album) but my dress isn't a ballgown.
