I think I have a serious problem.....

I think I have a serious problem.....

I really don't get it! If I hadn't gotten laid off and still had health insurance, i would have gone to see a nutritionist by now. No matter what I eat, whether it is fruit, a yogurt, cereal w skim milk (for breakfast)..... I am starving an hour later!

And then of course around 1 , I eat lunch (trying to stick to low carbs)....and then at around 3.....hungry again.

Anyone have this problem and what do you do about it?

Are you working out? You probably aren't eating enough. I eat every 2-3 hours. If I don't I am starving. If you are eating a l;ow carb diet, you need to eat more frequently. If you do, you will be less hungry, and your metablolism will speed up.

Also, make sure you put good fats in your meals. This will fill you up more.

Yep I go to Curves...and I am attempting to follow a low carb diet. What would be a good fat?

Nuts, like almonds, or walnuts are great! I also eat all natural peanut butter on a rice cake between meals. But if you are eating low carb, you are eating high protein. So, eating fish like salmon, or tuna for lunch is a good idea to get those omega fatty acids. That's better than eating red meat as a protein.

You should buy a protein supplement, like whey, and drink a serving between meals. This will be a great bennefit because it is low fat and all protein.

I had the same problem and my doctor had me track my blood sugar with the finger prick meter for a week and it turned out I was hypoglycemic. I needed to supplement my diet with more protein than carbs/sugar, but not cut out carbs because my sugar drops too low. My nutritionist also suggested eating 5 smaller meals a day instead of 3.

I keep a box of sugar-free whole grain cereal in my desk drawer. That and Oat-bran. If you keep these things handy, you won't snack on the bad stuff that makes you tired later.

you know your sudden eating binge could also be contributed possibly to stress? being that you got laid off and all this wedding planning?

fiber...that usually holds me off for longer...like any high fiber cereal...and it keeps you regular ;)

also keep fruits and veggies around to snack on...

Thanks everyone!

Marcella - yes definitely, I think that is a factor. Plus I have a feeling my birth control has something to do with it as well. I started taking it in 11/01 and for the 1st 6 months I stayed skinny and my skin got worse. Then my skin cleared and I started to gain!!! AAAAAHHH!

I have started munching on the Kashi cereals and found that they fill me up for much longer than any other snack in between meals. It is low calorie, sodium, and has a lot of fiber so it's also really good for you.

It's probably your body adjusting to the low carbs, that is what happens when I try low carb to boost my weight loss. I'm always starving.

Carbs are what make you feel full. So if you are eating low carb, you are not getting full. Eat more meals per day: tiny meals, not a lot of carbs. It will help curb the appetite.

Maybe you're not drinking enough water? I read an article that said most people think they're hungry when they're really just thirsty. I try to eat a piece of fruit an hour after breakfast & tons & tons of water
(It helps a little)
