I think I have been living in a cave...

I have not gone computer shopping in a while. Tonight I went to go shopping for a new computer for an organization I belong to for school...since when did they do away with the A-drive? That is very inconvienient for students! So, now we can't get the computer we were approved for because we now have to pay for a seperate disc drive. When did they decide to do this?

My computer has the A: drive (for a little black disk, right?)

Actually that is quite surprising that it isn't standard....but in all honesty, the floppy disc is a thing of the past. Only holding 1.44MB of info is only good for word docs or excel spreadsheets.

But I can defintely see how students would need it.

FYI: For the same price as a floppy drive, you can get USB flash drives that hold 256MB (or more) and fit in your wallet (or in a student's pen case!)

I just got a new computer at work, and I had to order the A drive and have it installed. I was pretty surprised that it is no longer 'standard.'

I got my new computer back in May from Dell and had to request it. It wasn't that expensive though, maybe $30 extra bucks?

I've never used it, but got it just in case.

The problem with those 'pen' thingies (yeah, you can see I'm real computer literate ) is that not a lot of the students use them, they come to school w/ a floppy disc and put it the computer to work on an existing word doc or to print it.

We are getting the computer from Best Buy because we HAVE to pay by check (no other way). Their A-drives cost about $60. I may be able to get one at a computer fair cheaper, we will see.

Pay more money for less computer.

I understand the reason behind it, but I don't think it is logical.
