So, I am definitely on the 'slim down' track right now and trying to lose weight. I've gained a good 50lbs in the last year. I couldn't figure out why and after going from dr to dr, it turned out my thyroid stopped working. I've been on medicine since the summer and I'm finally starting to feel better but the way is slowwwwllllllly coming off. In any case, one of my TAs is a very sweet woman from Pakistan. She was telling me today how she used to look me before she got married, but she needed to get skinny for her dress and how she likes the 'chunka chunka' look. I don't know whether to laugh or cry!!!!!
So who wants to help me wire my jaw shut???? LOL

i know exactly how you feel! people that work with add me on facebook and tell me that i was gorgeous when i was skinny...i was like hellooo. but then thing is, i still feel beautiful (and girl YOU are beautiful!) i'm struggling with hypothyroidism as well...the medicine is doing nothing for me. all that matters is that you are happy. fh loves me for me and the weight just doesnt matter!
either way, i feel as though what she said was rude!

Don't worry- people at work said the same thing to me. I came back after the wedding and someone came up to me and said 'Wow- hair done, nails done, tan, thin... marriage suits you.' Gee, thanks.

I hate people..... It comes down to that.. Don't worry one of the girls at the office didn't even try to hide the fact that she was calling me fat. I showed her the pictures from dress shopping and one of them she was like 'you are a big girl so that would not be good for you!)

Oh I am right there with you!!!!! I have been having the same problem and was also just diagonosed with a thyroid disease and Im sitting here today to uncomfortable bc even my fat jeans are so tight they hurt :( My weigh has yet to start coming off but my meds were just changed again. I have 6 months till the wedding and it better start coming off!!! We can do it!!!!!!

I think every girl struggles with weight at one point or another....even a friend of mine who runs maratons and is fit as anything has her own issues....but your all beautiful and dont let anyone get you down!!!
On a different note, cause i'm a doctor, i just wanted to warm you guys about thryoid meds. Now, for people with LEGIT hypothyroidism, synthroid is a LIFE SAVER, esp when you get pregnant! BUT, I worked with a quack last year when i was a 4th year in medical school, who was pushing 'bioidentical hormones' to woman who had 'low' thyroid levels. Thyroid hormones are NOT to be messed around with. If you have a normal thyroid and you take any supplements, you can have a heart atack, stroke, and die!
Basically, know the doctor your going to, If he tells you to do a 'Special' TRH test, instead of the standard TSH...run away!

My mom suffers from thyroid disease and once she found out, she panicked and she went from 205lbs to 156 lbs by walking everyday 50 city blocks.. She fits into my size 6 jeans from high school. When I asked her what her motivation was, she said she needed to look great and be healthy for her future grandkids! It is definitely something very emotional to go through and I wanted to share my story with you b/c I believe at the end of the day, you have to be happy with yourself and FH will love you unconditionally no matter what. People are rude sometimes and it only comes back to them twice as worse.

OHHHH donna thats okay! about 3 years ago, i was asked 'so how far along are you' I simply said 'for what?' the girl was like 'UH UH UH im sorry nevermind'
LOL so yea it hurts and it sux, but you are NOT fat so shut up! LOLOLOL
I lost 17 lbs since may and have 30 to go.... i kinda fell off the wagon :(

OMG! FH's mother was crazy happy when she thought I was pregnant! I IMMEDIATELY lost like 15 lbs within a month.

I can relate to the prego comments I went to the jeweler to pick up something I got fixed and I went on my birthday and the guy sees my ring and says congratulations and points at my stomache!! I was mortified and walked out crying, I was so upset and then FH had plans to take me to this steak house we love and I didn't wanna go. It made for a very bad birthday =o(
I realized I have gained too much weight and my eating/workout habits are very bad. I'm slowly trying to get back on track but its a long road! FMIL also comments 'you have to fit in that dress' whenever I'm eating junk it's frustrating

That's horrible! I'm sorry! I've felt like that before and it's not fun. Right now I can only fit into 1 pair of jeans... I might have to start wearing sweats.

people think they are justified to say whatever they want and we cant say anything back! you should have told the TA that 'the chunk chunk look is beautiful! that 'thin as a pencil' look is so out!'
