so my photog emails me today asking when can we do the e-pix (we had to cancel a week ago b/c of FH's accident with glass window). so I asked him also if I should just mail him the deposit check. he emails me back saying that I should mail it cause that will ensure that he won't book any other wedding on our date we have a signed contract, and he himself toled me that I can just give him the check when we meet for the e-pix. so what does that suppose to mean???? I totally freaked, and still freaking out. I even booked a meeting with another photog agency. What worries me is if he can't remember what we discussed a month ago, how can I trust him to do as discussed in 10 months at the wedding???
am I wrong to freak out? what should I say back to him?
I would definitely call him back and say you have a signed contract. I think hes just trying to make sure hes getting his money but that is sinister...
ETA: I would mail in the check. Does it say in the contract anywhere 'pending deposit' or anything like that? Read thoroguly

I would sign a contract before sending him the check

Re: I think I'm overreacting but...
as long as you have a contract, i think you should be fine. maybe he was counting on that check for cash flow so he still wants to get it around the same timeframe?

If you have a signed contract I would remind him what he said maybe he is having a slight Alzheimer’s moment

i would call and ask him what he meant, because you thought you had a good standing contract. he should be able to explain himself ...
if he is hemming and hawing...i would probably look somewhere else.... (of course read the contract thoroughly...you want to make sure there is not a cancellation policy that would still have you owing him $$)

I read the contract right now, as u girls suggested, and there is no cancellation policy. it does say that the 40% deposit at the signing of the contract. but then he emailed me himself saying that to give him the check when we do the e-shoot. I'm gonna call him and 'gently' remind him that!

I wouldn't overreact just yet. Remember, these vendors are dealing with TONS of different brides, and off the top of his head probably can't keep track of all of them. Maybe he had you confused with someone else? Or maybe he just had a brain fart.... Especially if he's made special arrangements or agreements with you that he doesn't normally make.
I would nicely remind him of your agreement and see what he says.

I would call him and remind him that there's a signed contract but that you're sending the check. He's running a business and has to watch his back, and he did a favor by pushing the deposit to the e-pics; by you canceling the epics, how does he know you're not flaking around? He just needs to protect his business, and the line he used about holding the date is just the standard line they all use. I wouldn't get upset over it, just see it from his point.

I would call him and remind him what he had told you about giving the check at the engagement shoot. If he sounds a little sketchy or hesitant or does anything that you feel uncomfortable about then I think you should definitely look elsewhere. You need to feel comfortable with your vendors, especially your photographer!!

I don't think it's a big deal mail him the check and you know you're good to go.
Honestly I am shocked they let you sign a contract without a deposit I had to give $ on the spot.

the contract was signed over phone/email, and I told him that I am sending the check, he said (and I have it in an email) that we should just give it to him when we do e-pix. this is exactly why I freaked! wasn't my idea, but his.
spoke to FH, and he said the same thing as u all girls did: email him and remind him what he said and then we will mail the check
