I think they charged me too much...

Hey,... I ordered my wedding gown from Renates in Lindenhurst last Tuesday. I have had pretty good experience there so far, but it was brought to my attention this weekend that the tax on clothing is different now, and I think i was charged the 8.7something%.

Does anybody know if this was right, or if I was overcharged? Or if the lower tax thing is only for under certain $ amounts?

i thought that the lowered tax is only for NYC?

in any case, I'm pretty sure it only applies to clothes under $110

They should have charged you 8.37% tax. Items under 100 or 110 should not be taxed.

I think it only applies to items under $110.00.

the lower tax is in the city (or atleast queens i know) but probably wouldn't apply to bridal items...they are kind of a luxury...sorry girls, they are. the correct amt?? i have no clue...i just know it can vary from street to street sometimes and drives me nuts.

I think they lowered the tax as well, but I do not know if it is items under $100 or not - I did not hear that.

the STATE tax was eliminated but not COUNTY tax. NYC already didn't have sales tax, so there is no tax at all in NYC now. Nassau and Suffolk are around 4% now, but thats only on clothing and shoes under $110. You were charged correctly.

I think state tax is taken away, which still leaves half the tax for Nassau and not sure about Queens or Suffolk. But as the other girls said, I think it is only for items under $110.

The tax charge has been lifted in all of New York State, but they can still charge county tax which is what Suffok County is doing. I think it is like 4.something. Anyway....as for any tax I think there is a limit of $110, but it can't help to check.
