I think this makes no sense - help settle the debate

My mother thinks that the gifts for my bridal shower sent directly to her house by people who will NOT BE ATTENDING the shower, should still be brought TO the shower, and opened in front of all the guests.

This makes NO sense to me, since the sender will not even be there. My opinion is I can open them privately and send a thank-you note, just as I would for all the other gifts.

So - who is right?

Pls note, people that send gifts directly to the house and ARE ATTENDING the shower, we will be bringing their gift to open.

I don't know what is proper but, I wouldn't bring them- It's kind of a waste of time there because I'm sure you'll have sooo many others to open just from the people who are attending.. That way you'll have mire time to spend with your guests...

I have heard of that being done, but gift opening takes so long anyway, why prolong it. It really is just for nosy people to se what the others bought.

Sorry, I'd have to go with your mom on this one. I think that all of the shower gifts should be opened at the shower. Otherwise they would have been sent directly to you.

I don't know what is correct in this instance, but I too would suggest taking them to the shower. Are there that many that you are worrying about the extra time it takes to open them? Your mom will even be lugging them for you. LOL!
Nosy or not, there may be relatives of the people who sent the gifts there who may be asked how you like them.
