I think we picked the WORST lawyer on the planet!!!

He was supposed to call us Friday to let us know about our closing date and never did. No call over the weekend either from him. No call this morning again so DH called him and he left for the day!!!!! ***????? DH also left a message on his cell phone. We have all our stuff to close now and are getting NOWHERE. I am so upset. Sorry, I needed to vent.

If you can get out of using him and get another, I would recommend the one we are using (FM me for info. if you want)! He has been incredibly attentive and responsive. Stinks to have to worry about this in addition to all the closing stress!

I think they suggest not to change your attorney when you are already in the middle of a deal (most other attorneys dont always accept deals mid way through) - nonetheless - for a closing - his legal secretary or secretary should know that information since the attorney himself almost rarely sets up that info - if anythign make the secratary call the other side (seller's attorney) and find out when the closing is.

There is nothing worse than a bad lawyer that doesn't get back to you on a decent basis.

My first closing I was stuck in this situation... partially cause I knew the guy. I guess he felt he could put me aside since he knew me.

I agree with attica. First if you change attorney's you will have to pay 2x! Second you are too close to change IMO. I will say that my FH and I very rarely talk to our attorney, we deal mostly with the legal secetary and she is great! She lets us know exactly what needs to be done and when and contacts everyone for us! I am not sure what our attorney does...J/K. Either way call the legal secetary and see what he/she says, you can also try the RE agent. OUrs works for the same firm as the selling agent so between the 2 of them, they seem to know just about as much as we do about what is going on. If a closing date has been set, I am sure they would know.
Have you secured Homeowners insurance yet? If not, maybe while you are waiting you can find out what kind of coverage you need and price that out amongst differnt agencies so that when you do get your closing date its almost done.

I wasn't gonna get another lawyer. He just called us back. The closing will be before June 18th.

Our lawyer was a good friend of the family and he did not get in touch with us at times also. I think that they live in a different world sometimes. Do not worry and trust him to get into your home. Enjoy!!
