Re: I think we've done this before...

have fun..........its freakin long

After the last coat of paint was dry, all the furniture had been delivered and the dust finally settling from a couple of fairly wild housewarming parties, I knew it was time to pop the question. Wanting to do something she would truly remember, I thought long & hard about the how, where and when about how I should ask Roz. Realizing that 2008 was the first year since we met without making a trip to Montauk (one of our most favorite spots), I made some very incognito plans for a weekend getaway there Thanksgiving weekend. We spent Thanksgiving day with our families, which was very difficult as everyone in our families knew what was happening the next day except for Roz. The next morning I told Roz I had a surprise for her, we were going to Montauk as we hadn't been out there yet that year. She was so excited that by the time i came back from walking Leo & Ginger she was already dressed, packed & ready to hit the road. We hit the road and were in Montauk a little after 12. We spent the day by taking Leo & Ginger for a walk on the beach (it was a beautiful day and Leo loves to run on the sand), watched a couple of movies and just relaxed the afternoon away. We went out for dinner at the restaurant in the Montauk Manor where we were staying. We had a very nice dinner (with a couple of martini's involved to loosen my anxiety) and returned to the room. We were greeted by our happy shih tzu's, and began to unwind. We threw the TV on and shut off the lights. It was shortly after that when I asked Roz 'do you love me enough to be Mrs. Booch?' and opened a box with Roz's ring inside. She immediately said 'you're crazy' and began crying and finally after about 5 minutes I asked her 'does that mean yes?'. She said 'yes' and we spent the next couple hours drinking champagne, calling everyone we knew to celebrate the news. The following day, we drove from Montauk to Riverhead to spend the day with Greg DeVeau and his family for their annual Rappi Pie day. We were greeted with open arms and congratulations as Greg was in on this plan for over a month. It was great to spend that day with the DeVeau's and other friends. We spent the rest of our weekend hosting Roz's sister Alicia, her husband John, Roz's longtime friend John Cabeza, my sister Sara and others for what was again supposed to be an early night but didnt end up that way!

I came home from work and he made penne a la vodka, which we always have on V-Day, anniversary, etc. He made dinner, set the table for two and the ring box was on the table. I put my stuff down and he proposed.

Nice and simple at home, very 'us'.

We had gone ice skating at Wollman rink in Central Park and at the time they ask everyone to clear the ice so they can clean it, he directed me to a coned off circle in the middle of the rink. The song All my life by K-Ci and Jo-JO started playing. He got down on one knee (pretty difficult in ice skates) and popped the question. His friend who went with us videotaped it.

Re: I think we've done this before...

FH stayed up the entire night before because he was so nervous about proposing. He replaced my everyday ring with my engagement ring & I was supposed to find it when I woke up for school that morning. However, I decided not to go to school that day since I wasn't feeling well. At around 11AM, FH asked me if I felt well enough to go to the store. So we went to the store.
Strangely enough, I threw on sweat pants & a tee shirt & no jewelry (for the first time in 8 years). So off to the store we went. When we got back home I unpacked the groceries & joined FH sitting on the couch. He said, “I have a surprise for you.” I said, “Why?” knowing our anniversary was 3 days away. So he told me to go look on my desk. I didn’t even notice it. Then I picked it up, put it on, and couldn’t believe it. Took it off for him to put on & then I said yes.

FH wasn't too original but it was sweet and so him and perfect.

He tied the ring to the collar of my kitty Champ when he surprised me! I got 2 gifts in 1!

It was lovely!

I keeping saying it but I LOVE hearing about proposals that just don't work the way FH's want them to! It was a good idea by him though and a GREAT save!

Re: I think we've done this before...

Lets see I had been hinting to Fh that on my next Birthday I would like to be engaged which is 7/12 and I would be 27, anyone that July 4 weekend he made plans for us to go away to the Hamptons for 3 days, going out there I was really upset that is was pouring and I could not go the beach so he said lets drive out to the lighthouse so we went and it stop raining and we went to a lookout point we had found 2 years early and with the lighthouse in the background we got engaged. He would not let me call anyway ! so on our way home he said he made reservation at my favorite resturant when I walked in my mom, sisters, bother ,BIl,my aunt, his mom & bother my bothers girlfriend, my niece and 6 really good friends of ours jump up and I get attack from my 2 best friends He bought the ring in May and had been planning it for mths with my family. My sister bought us a cake and everything.

oh almost forgot I was so excited that I took the ring from him jumping up and down he took back and said he has to put it on !

Re: I think we've done this before...

so we had gone on vacation to hilton head, sc with my dad and sisters the day after christmas. it was new years eve and we had the spent the day with my family going out to eat and seeing a movie. earlier on in the day fh asked me casually if i wanted to go to the beach to see the sunset. so me not thinking anything of it was like yea, sure. so after we had spent time with my dad and sisters we split up and went back to our time share to change and go to the beach. we found a nice spot to lay a blanket and just goofed around. fh actually let me take a TON of pictures of us together which probably should have tipped me off because he usually hates taking 12495842494 of the same picture..haha. so then i was sitting in-between his legs looking out at the ocean and skyline and he goes 'kristen, will you spend the rest of your life with me' and pulls out the ring. i was so freaking shocked because i thought he would never get up enough nerve to actually get a ring and ask me. it was amazing. the funny thing was that the only person on the trip who knew it was going to happen was my dad so when we got back to our room my three sisters swore that we were lying and that my ring MUST be fake! it was actually pretty funny and it was a great way to celebrate the new year.

side note: fh and i had talked about getting engaged but all these great opportunities kept coming and going where i felt fh could have done a perfect proposal but didn't. so when we first got to our time share i actually snooped through fh's stuff because i thought this trip would be a great time/place to propose. i literally tore his crap apart and found nothing. so i just assumed that it was still not going to happen for a while and wa kind of disappointed. turns out he hid the ring in a sock in one of his draws.

Re: I think we've done this before...

It was a Saturday morning and FH wanted me to come over to his apartment and then go together to the Beer Hall in Astoria for our friends birthday party later that day. I was tired and cranky and told him no I would just meet him there since I lived in Queens at the time. FH kept insisting that I come over and I remember I got kind of pissed and was just like no way, i'll meet you there. So when FH see's me there he has a big grin and sits down next to me like he did something guilty. Then he takes out a small black box and places it into my bag and tells me to take it out when we get home. So I ignore his instructions and open the box and see my ring and i'm speechless and like when did he do this?! Also-I try on the ring, but its too big because apparently he took one of my rings for my middle finger and took it into the jeweler. I felt really bad to steal attention from my friends birthday party but all our friends were there and they were super excited. I didnt get a chance to wear my ring for another week, but i thought it was sweet. FH told me that if i had not been such a brat and come over he would have proposed earlier that day. LOL

Re: I think we've done this before...

I love telling mine:

During an intense game of Rock Band, Michael asked when we were exchanging Christmas gifts and told me mine was under the tree. It was a beautiful hand-crafted Disney centerpiece with Mickey Mouse and Pluto riding a sleigh. Now, a little backstory. We had recently moved into our new house, and we were using a spare bedroom for storage. A friend of ours had spent the night the day before, so while I was at work, Michael cleared out the bedroom so we could accomodate our friend. Little did he know, his Christmas gift was in a box in that bedroom's closet. When I went to get Michael's gift out of the closet, I noticed he had piled all of boxes that were being stored in the bedroom on top of the box with his gift in the closet!. I asked him to help me move the boxes, and as he put one of the boxes down, it had a ring box on it. I stopped in my tracks, saw the box, and said 'What's that???' Michael told me it was nothing. I responded with 'No seriously, what is it.' He told me to open it myself and find out.

I opened it and immediately said 'Are you serious???' Michael said no and took it back. He took the ring out of the box, and began to put it on my finger, but I noticed he was putting it on my right hand! I quickly corrected him, and after he put the ring on the correct finger, I started hugging and kissing him. It was then that he suddenly said 'So you haven't answered me.' My response was 'You haven't asked me anything.' He looked me dead in the eye and said....'So, you wanna?'

Re: I think we've done this before...

FH was very smooth. I have a bad rep from my family and friends of ruining my own surprises; I like to investigate. Therefore, FH really had to cover all of his tracks. He started planning in JUNE (we were engaged in December) when he made up a fake professor from a university in Iowa (he even called the school and had them make up a fake account!!), and he sent e-mails to himself from this fake account. He said this guy was doing research with him, and they were planning to meet up at a conference in Chicago at some point.

Around November, FH forwarded me an e-mail 'exchange' between himself and the fake professor making plans to meet up in December; he asked me if I wanted to go, and that it would be a free trip since his department would pay for it. I said OK, and planned to bring my final grad school paper with me since he would be away during a morning meeting (or so I thought).

We got to the hotel on a Friday night, I walked in, and it was a HUGE suite...beautiful, really. I didn't think anything of it--I thought he was going to get fired for charging this to his dept's account. I sat on the bed for a second, and noticed a photo album next to me. I asked out loud what it was and FH said 'probably hotel accomodations. take a look.' I opened it up, and it had my favorite poem right in the front. I felt stupid because then I knew what was up. I flipped to the next page, and there was a rose attached to the page with my ring! It was a great weekend, and I got a D+ on my paper (I had an A in the class and wound up with a B...the professor totally understood).
