Pilates should not be painful like you're describing. Was it a group or private session? Pilates really wasn't deisgned for groups let alone these massive groups the local gyms offer it to. I really advise against large group pilates since the instructor can't give feedbach to every individual and since Pilates is about strengthening your core you can really hurt yourself is not done correctly.
Feel better!

I have been doing pilates for two years. There are instructors who have over 900 hours of training and others that get certified in a weekend. If you took the class at a gym and not a pilates studio, maybe the instructor doesnt have many hours of training. Like the other post, your back should not hurt you. It is all in the stomach.

That's the thing! For me it all ends up in my back! I guess my abs are not strong enough! My instructor told me that if I have pains in my back I should bend my legs when lifting them instead of having them straight. He also said that he has the same
then thing is, I have no problems doing the excersise, it comes farily easy and I have good balance and flexibility. there are no signs during the class that I will be in pain. But i am!

You should not be feeling it in your back. My guess is that you were not being taught correctly. If you ever feel a strain on your lower back, you are supposed to make adjustments. Also, they way I was taught is that your lower back is not really supposed to come off the floor, in exercises where you're flat on your back and raising and/or lowering your legs. The natural tendency is to arch your back, to make it easier, but you're really supposed to be using your abdominals to stabilize you, so that your back doesn't arch like that. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, because it can be such a great workout when its taught correctly. Don't give up!

Does anyone know of a place around Port Jeff that offers pilate classes? Or any kind of exercise classes?
