...I went bridesmaid dress shopping with my best friend today (her wedding is in March) and am totally discouraged and don't even wanna go dress shopping for myself! UGH....
We started out hitting every place from Rocky Point to Lake Grove....I'm normally (normal dress) a size 12....at David's Bridal I was a 16....she didn't find anything there....we then go to Bridal Suite in Centereach where NOTHING even got over my hips....the largest size they had was probably a 10...I was trying on mostly 8's....because the styles she liked were only available in 8....
So....we END up at Macy's (I have now had NO dresses zip up.....) where I try on a 14 for her...and she falls in love with them (Bill Levkoff style 626)....14 wouldn't zip but fit nicely unzipped....I then get measured....then I'm told I'm a size......20
Now....I DO have a little more to love....but now I don't want to go try on dresses at ALL.
Whats the point in going dress shopping if none of them are going to get on enough to SEE if I like them....I mean, I know I will be putting most of them over my head....which is totally fine....but how flipping CRAPPY tonight was....
All in all....I ordered my darn size 20.

Aww i hear ya. My sister is a lus size 18/20 also & we went dress shopping & teh bridal salons pretty much have up to 16 in everything we were both so upset because it makes you feellike crap So i said you know you should really carry at least 2 of every dress 1 in reg & 1 plus size over 16 like 20 or22 at least! ITS HORRIBLE My sister was upset until i finally said you know lets go to Davids Bridal so you can actually try on a dress. Which we did & had a better time but we still havent found anything we like. The upside is my sister has been so great & diligent about losing weight not only for my wedding but for herslef her family esp. her children. She is down 30lbs & going for more. Im very proud of her & i love her no matter what size she is! So dont give up or feel down love yourself no matter what & remember your man loves you too for you!

First of all, you're gorgeous. Second of all, the dress sizes ARE way off, and every designer is different. I don't care if I buy a size 100, I will rock it, and so will you. No one sees the tag inside, they just see the gorgeous creature in the dress!!!

Re: I usually don't need to vent but....
wedding dresses for whatever ridiculious reason are eupropean sizes.....so they're all effed up....however a 20 seems a bit ridiculious! i think they were way oversizing you so that can make money on alterations!
thats nonsense.....if anything your real size should be no more than a 16.....
I was sized for a waters dress 2 years ago and i was a solid size 12 and they ordered me a 16 and it fit perfectly......its about the inches not about the size of the dress
i feel for ya!!! ps...for wedding dresses Maggies are great!!!!! they run true to size....i was trying on 12s and felt like i just needed the 14....i was so happy

Dresses sometimes run bigger than your actual size. I wear a 7 and yet a BM dress I had for a wedding was a 14...weird right?
Dont feel bad about it. It was just the one time...next time will be better.

Listen, I work in a bridal store and I can assure you that the measurements for dress sizes (bridal, bridesmaid) are NOT even CLOSE to the sizes for street clothes. YOu can't get discouraged by that! I promise you! I have had to order dresses 4 sizes bigger than I usually am! DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THIS! Just make sure you order it so that it will fit properly!

Oh no dont get discouraged. I know how you feel. I went BM dress shopping back in March for my friends wedding and they had to order me a size 10 and I'm usually a size 6 in dresses (its my damn hips, they get me everytime) I went dress shopping for me a few weeks ago and some 10's wouldnt even zip up all the way. Its really the dresses that run small. They base everything on your measurements and just think how great the dress will look on you when its tailored to your exact body shape. Dont worry about it......I think we can all feel your pain.

Please don't let this discourage you! I am normally a size 0 (I'm only 4'11, I'm still afraid I'm going to look like a girl in a communion dress instead of a woman in a wedding dress ) Anyway, I tried on a size 10 dress and it only had to be pinned in a little.. seriously, they are made SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO small that its ridiculous!
