I want a little kitty but.....

DH has been so hesitant!!! I am really ready for a pet but I am getting no support from him!!! What is funny is that he grew up in a household filled with LOTS of cats and dogs!!! I did not. He still seems upset about losing his precious Yorkie so long ago. How do I convince him? He said he is thinking about it. All we need to do is ask our landlord and it should be okay. Do I need to push the issue farther?

My husband was the same way at first. We were married about 10 months before we got our cats. Neither one of us were cat people; however, our old landlord would not allow dogs. We babysat our friends cat and after that he was in love.

I suggest taking him to a pet shop or animal shelter and let him play with some of them. Maybe that will get his mind going. Besides cats are a lot lower maintenance than dogs. I know that was a big plus for my husband because we use to be away from home a lot.

Having them to come home to has brought a lot of joy to our marriage. Good luck. I hope you can convince him. Beg if all else fails - hee hee.

Our life would not be the same without our cats!
Even Gunnar, who is evil and likes to eat my arms, provides constant companionship and sometimes even enjoyment .
And since we got a little kitten, it's just gotten better and better. We can sit and watch them play and it's like having kids, but without the diapers and bottles .
I'm thinking it somewhat prepares us for when we start a family!

You can push, but keep in mind that any animal you adopt (no pet stores of course!) will need a permanent and stable home. So, he has to understand that if you adopt you can't 'return' it, it's a life long commitment and cat's can live 20 years!

I took my husband to a few shelters and he found a kitty he fell for. We adopted her (I did push on going to the shelters, but let him decide when and which cat to adopt), and she is our best friend. I think if I hadn't put that in his hands, he wouldn't feel the same about her.

It was important to me that he love her, b/c I explained to him that even if she had bathroom or behavior problems-she was part of the family and we would never get rid of her (she did have a bathroom problem at first b/c she had a urinary tract infection and couldn't make it in the box). He loved her, so it didn't matter to him.

Please adopt from a shelter. The Cacc has lots of kittens that need homes. Plus, you are saving a life.

not for nothing, but her question wasnt where to get one, it was if she should still pursue her husband with the issue or not.

Re: I want a little kitty but.....

Thanks for all the advice!! I think my hubby needs a little push. I think his main concern is us moving sometime in the near future and getting a pet right away would make it more difficult. He wants to see us 'settled' first.
