I want to quit my job..what do I do?

I want to quit my job..what do I do?

I really don't like what I do. It's just a job for me...my future is not in the financial world! I don't think that I can take working here until after I'm married. Do I just quit b/c I want to persue a career in real estate and focus all my attention on that? I also take a class twice a week (I'm working on by BA only 1 class left!) I feel like I hit a brick wall at work and I really don't like it here...I always said that this job was temporary...I've been here for 3 years now.

I would love to get into working with children also. Where do I go from here? I feel so lost

I'm scared to quit and not be able to find a job, but it's really hard for me to look for one and work here. Help me please! I truly don't know what to do.

After you finish your one class, can't you work on Real Estate on the side and you can go from there. Slowly you can leave your job for good.

I know how you feel. I have been at my job 3 1/2 years and I don't hate it but this is def not something that I want to do for the rest of my life. My employers have offered me opportunitys that if I would of taken it my salary would of doubled BUT then I would be miserable. Now I am trying to start up my own side business and start from there. Its the only way I see possible to accomplish what I want to do.

Can you afford to quit your job?

I'd finish the class first, one thing at a time. And the stress of the wedding/planning as it gets closer, you may want the security of having your existing job instead of embarking on a new one (as well as available vacation time for the HM). I can't stand my job either, but maybe wait it out until after the wedding.

I believe so, I live at home and don't pay rent.
I just have the wedding expenses and I saved a whole lotta money for it and b/w FI and I we have it in the bank to pay for everything.

Re: I want to quit my job..what do I do?

I am in the same boat. I have been here (my temporary job) for 4 1/2 years now and was recently promoted to the HR Mgr (first time they have ever had an HR position in the company so it is all new to everyone). I am 4 classes away from my Masters in HR. Now that I am actually doing it, I am realizing it is not for me. I have been thinking a lot about real estate lately. I think it is an interesting field.

Are you able to afford to quit your job and look for new work? I can't and that is my problem. I feel like I stepped in a hole and can't climb out.

Are you going to school for real estate now? Is there something part time you can get now in that field?

If you can afford it then quit. If you are miserable every day, then quit cause no paycheck is worth that.

Why don't you like HR?

I don't know. Maybe it's my company, maybe it's me. I have been really depressed lately about it. I used to think I would love to do all the things HR consists of. Now that I am doing them, I am not liking it. Hard to explain it.

If you can afford to quit, I personally would quit and pursue what you want to do now. Its easier now while you are living with your parents then when you live on your own. know what i mean.

I agree. Do it now while you can before you get trapped with no choice!

If you can afford to quit, and live without benefits or salary for a while then go ahead. If not then stick with it until you finish school and maybe until after the wedding.

I am in the same boat as you, except im not going to school. I am going to go back after Danielle and I get married. I am very unhappy at my job. I have been here for 4.5 years and havent been happy for 3 years. I am currently looking for a nother job and I will not quit until I find one. I know how it is to be unemployed and I dont want to go through that again. When I was younger I was without a job for 6 months and I was going wild. Thankgod I had finally found something. Right now it is ver difficult to find a job, I think you should just stick with it for now until something better comes along.

I agree, if you want to make a change, make it now. I stayed in a dead end horribly stressful job for 3 years, instead of going back to school (or taking a less stressful job and going to school at night) for my Masters in Ed. Now, I am at a point in my life where DH and I are planning a family, and its starting to look like me going back to school is hard if not impossible right now. I wish I would have taken the chance when I knew how deadend my job was and left to pursue what I really wanted. Now I am in another dull stupid job until we start TTC, then hopefully I will be a SAHM and get my $hit together to become a teacher.
The problem w. 'temporary' jobs is that they become comfortable and hard to leave to take a chance on something new.

just think about benefits...you may think about waiting until you are married and can go on DH's plan

but I agree...don't stay in a job you hate...i did this for 3 years...and I learned a very valuable lesson...money cannot buy happiness...it lets you chose your misery

Re: I want to quit my job..what do I do?

Thanks ladies. I keep thinking the same thing...Is it worth staying b/c I'm making more money than I would somewhere else? But money isn't everything. Since I don't have any major responsiblities(chlid, rent car etc) I feel that now is my chance to experiment and find what I should be doing with my life. But I'm afraid what my mom will say 'You just made a huge mistake, you're never gonna get a job like the one you have'

But the point is I don't want the job I have. I rather take a paycut now and be happy elsewhere.
But I'm scared I'll fail. I've never felt like this before...I feel stuck!

Oh, yeah I already went to a real estate school and have the cert...I just need to take the state exam.

its mom's job to say things like this...shes just trying to protect you...but listen and then move on

this statement yells out what you should do

part of life is failing...you learn from mistakes...don't forget...staying in a job you hate can be seen as a mistake too...

Re: I want to quit my job..what do I do?

Wow- this post reflects what I've been thinking about today too. I was laid off last June from a job I really liked, then took a job in Aug doing something I really didn't like b/c I needed a job and the benefits. Now I'm commuting to a job that I hate, don't get home until 8:00 at night, and therefore can't do anything around the house during the week, so I run around like crazy on the weekends. It's just not the lifestyle I want. DH says to just quit, and we could survive on just his salary for a little while, but I'm worried about money and about having a gap in my employment. I don't know what to do either.
