I was shocked today

I was shocked today

My brother is having problems with his wife and now says he might not make it to the wedding (from FL). 'Might not' is code for 'I'm not coming'

His wife has a child from a previous marriage that is supposed to be my FLOWER GIRL. I purchased her FG dress and I already bought my new baby niece a matching dress so she can look like a little flowergirl too even though she's just an infant.

Now I understand that people have problems but I am seriously pissed. He didn't make it to my mom's big 60th birthday bash last year, my son's graduation, my daughter's graduation, my baptism ( I was rebaptized as an adult), and none of my college graduations. Now the wedding too?

My mother says that I need to be understanding. and that I should ask my cousin's daughter to be the new FG but this is bigger than the hassle of finding a replacement FG. This is just another major milestone in my life that he's decided is not important enough for him to make the trip from Florida.

I give up -- between this and my FMIL, I just want this wedding to be over

So sorry about that! I hope he can make it still. Have you told him how you feel about him missing all of these milestones? If he and his wife are having problems, maybe he can just come by himself. If won't solve the FG problem, but at least he'd be there.
It drives me crazy when family isn't there for eachother - believe me I know it first hand! I hope it works out.

Yes -- it makes me crazy too.
We got into the BIGGEST fight over my mom's birthday bash last year so I think he knows. I can't force him to come to my wedding so I have to just stop thinking about it. The FG is totally replacable but I think when he's old he'll regret not being part of the big moments in our lives. Next January is my daughter's sweet 16 (I'm 36 but I feel so old when I say that!) and my daughter already knows he probably won't make it.
Whatever.
