now I just have to sit and be patient while waiting for the results

I had mine yesterday as well. What is the turnaround for results? I asked the nurse and she said they *should* have them by my next appt in two weeks.

Its scary, alot of my friends have had false positives!

my nurse also told me 2 weeks for th results.

On a good note, my next sono is December 29th and I will be able to find out the sex of the baby then!!!

What is the difference between The AFP test and the Ultra Screen Test? I am going for the Ultra Screen next week. They are going to take blood to measure the protein levels and also do a sonogram to measure the baby's nuchal fold. Is the AFP test something different? Thanks.

Everything will be fine!!!
I didn't even have it. they said it is totally unreliable with twins!! I had a high res sonogram instead.

I had a hard time find info on the difference between the Ultra Screen and AFP test.
I did find this.. its called the Quad Test and actually includes the AFP plus 3 other screening tests. Are they one in the same?Hope this helps!

I did some investigating, too.

The 'ultra-screen test' is a combo blood test/ultrasound done during the first trimester. It's primary use is to predict the risk of Down's Syndrome and other chromosomal defects. It is a diagnostic test and therefore there are some false-negatives and some false-positives.

The AFP test is a blood test done usually in the second trimester that is used mostly to predict Neural Tube defects. The Ultra-screen test does not detect neural tube defects. The AFP screening can also indicate other defects including Down's.

Both test are diagnostic and again only give you the probabilty of a defect. Only the amniocentesis and the CVS sampling are 100%.
