They lost my son the other day and today they would not release him to my husband! Last week the took my sons snack away because he wasnt working during class. 'He was putting his head down too often!' I took him to the doctor right after that and he had a very bad double ear infection! He said mommy Im so sorry I was just so tired and my ears hurt. Also, I almost cried because I sent the teacher numerous notes asking her to please tell me if Gabe doesnt eat b/c he is losing weight! (Due to loss of appetite) and then she takes his snack away!!! :cry Thats not even everything! Lets just leave it at that!
The end!!!

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
I would definetely be contacting the principal and in the words of my mother 'if you don't get any satifaction from them keep going'
We had some really horrible teachers when we were in school...this one beoch told my brother who apparently had a fever in school that his cheeks were so red he looked like Santa Claus...had no concern that gee this kid could be sick....My mother flew up to that school and told this woman off and then went to the principal about her!

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
oh sweetie I am so sorry that this is happening to you and your baby!
MAKE A TON OF NOISE!!! I am a teacher and taught in Bellport for 3 years. I know a bit about Patch-Med and what I know is not good.
If you get no decent response from the principal go directly to the superintendent and then the board - then threaten to talk to channel 12 news. They will hear you and fix it. If not - go crazy and make everyone listen. Be in their face - make them fear you!
Trust me, it's unfortunately the only way to get things done down there...

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
oh believe me I know! I went to Pat Med K -12, worked there and now work in Sayville. It kills me to work in such a wonderful district - Sayville and know my son is going there. I have had SO many problems there!!
This may sound bad but I am so tired of fighting with them! I get nowhere and I am no the crazy mom. So today I actually told them that I was moving because their district is just so terrible in too many ways.

There is actually a LAW against that - no one is to be denied food contingent upon doing their work - just wanted to let you know!

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
Let me tell you how to whip them into shape FAST.
CALL THE M-F SUPERINTENDANT!
My daughter has a severe fear of self-flushing toilets. Her school put them in over the summer. [except for the one in the other K room] She has wet her pants on occasion. One day I went in, got harassed by the receptionist only to find my daughter holding hands with and playing with toys with kids in the nurses office who were bragging to the kids in the hall that they were going home for puking and other highly contagious problems. [now mind you, I'M PREGNANT!!!!] Another time I demanded to know if there was a single toilet, whether it was the janitor's or whatever, that did NOT self-flush. They swore to me there wasn't. They also had my daughter sitting in the hallway alone wtih soaked clothes. [it was the end of hte day]
I told them off, went home, changed her and proceeded to call the superintendent of the school district.
The next day, they found the regular toilet and she has carte blanche to just go use it. The principal got his a$$ handed to him.

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
I can't STAND Pat-Med. My nephew goes to Tremont. Just before Christmas during his kindergarten year his mom (my sister) died. We buried her on Christmas Eve.
His dad was COMLETELY grief stricken and my sisters and mother and I were out there trying to help him as often and as best we could. Sean went to school a few times with clothes that were pulled off the dirty laundry pile a few times in the first month because his dad had NEVER taken care of the kids before - and had no clue what the hell he was doing. It was an adjustment. Meanwhile my nephew was acting out - crying, throwing tantrums, being alternatively aggressive and angry - then turning shy and weepy.
THE SCHOOL CALLED CPS! They said that my sister's husband was neglectful and that Sean was a problem child! Of course CPS dismissed the whole situation once they were advised of the circumstances - but can you even IMAGINE? Not even 2 months after he buries my sister he has CPS at his door saying he is a bad father?
Later, he had to get school records for Sean because he was trying to enroll him in a private school. Can you believe that the school had written all about Sean's behavior problems and anger problems but not ONCE mentioned that his mother had died during the year??? The private school actually TURNED HIM DOWN because the records indicated that he had serious emotional and behaviorial problems. They changed their mind when it was explained that his behavior was due to the fact that his mother died.
But... I still hate them. In fact - isn't that the district where they had the child who fell asleep on the bus this year and the driver left the poor baby IN THE BUS while she went home and never realized the kid was on there?
I am so glad you are moving from that place. The gang violence in the upper schools is TERRIFYING. My best friend teaches in the HS and I am afraid for her... I couldn't imagine having my kids go there.
And Cheryl.... I am so sorry that your poor daughter had to put up with such idiocy from her school. I would have been LIVID.

Oh no no no! That was not just the district - It was my sons school!! They lost THREE kids in the first week or so of school, the one you mentioned being one of them.
2 weeks ago I get a call from the after care program while I was at work. The woman says, 'Hi Mrs. C? Can you tell me did your mom pick up Gabe from school today?' Im like - I DONT KNOW? WHY!? (He was supposed to be with the lady whos calling) She was like - because hes not here in after care and were not sure who picked he was released to.'
Here I am - OMG OMG OMG! Flipping out!!
Turns out - Aftercare didnt pick up Gabe from his classroom, and the teacher ushered the class outside to be picked up by parents. My mom went to the school and stood outside just incase he was released b/c on News 12 it said all after school activities cancelled. When she saw him she figured it was and took him home.
I am just so sick of getting phone calls and having major trouble. I am going to pick up Gabe today at 3;15. Who wants to bet that I will have trouble (or of course get talked down to by their ridiculous principal)

i don't have any kids yet, but i am so sorry you are all going through this. this is exactly the type of stuff i think about when dh and i think about buying a house - what the school district is like. it's just terrifying that these things happen at the schools. i hope it works out for each of you and your kids.

Re: I went OFF on my sons school today!
My daughter is 16 now and when she was in Kindergarten I had a restraining order against her biological father because he threatened to steal the kids and take them back to Ireland and I would never see them again(needless to say my kids havent seen the jerk since)anyhow that's another story...I brought the courts paperwork up and had a meeting not only with the principal, vice principal and her teacher but handed the actual order to the principal. Well I get a phone call not one week later that she was missing and her teacher released her to a woman who claimed they had a play date scheduled. No questions asked this woman let her go(same idiotic woman who later told me that she may need special education because, 'you know she does write with her left hand!' OMG. Anyhow, it turned out that this parent had the sense to bring my daughter back to the school and call my boss to explain the confusion. Well when I called the principal I was told it is not there responsibility order or not not to release her to someone who says they are there to pick her up. Well a month later I go to pick her up and there's a father flipping out because his son is gone and the teacher cant tell him who picked the child up. She told the dad, 'Well he was here a minute ago'. okay found out that it was the wifes fault for not informing dad that the boy stayed home sick that day. So please tell me how this dumb a$$ can claim he was there a minute ago. Needless to say my daughter was taken out about a week after. I feel your pain.
