I went to a Watermill Wedding Friday night (FM Ent was there too)

Hello Watermill ladies....

My best friend got married at the Watermill on Friday night. I just wanted to let you know that they did an amazing job! The food was amazing, the service was great, overall it was a great night.

FM Ent was her DJ. We both booked with FM - I was truly not pleased with the music and NO ONE was dancing at all except for me and my friends.
At the end of the night, my sister was drunk and decided to go up to FM and ask them if they were going to play crappy music like this at my wedding, and if so that wouldn't fly.
The DJ told us that the bride put all of those crappy songs on her list of songs to play.

I have to tell you I was very relieved!! The whole night I thought it was FM that was choosing the crappy songs, but all along it was my friend, lmao. FM assured my sister that they would play better songs at my wedding because we didn't request the songs that the bride did.

So that def made me feel confident and much MUCH better!!! Other than the song selections (That was my friends fault not FM's fault) Frank the MC did a fantastic job! He did the group dances with us and got everyone pumped when the bridal party and bride and groom were being called out!

what kind of stuff were they playing that was so bad?

Watermill is really pretty - I went to a wedding there last year and I thought it was really nice.

It was music that not good to dance to... like Hanson, and Nsync. It felt like that should be played at a Sweet 16. But, I fould out that my friend put that on her list of songs.... why? I dunno. Lol. When all of those songs started playing, anyone that was even on the dance floor sat right back down.

All too often brides and people complain about people not dancing or the music selection and it ends up being that the people aren't dancing because of the songs listed on the must play list. FM seems to try very hard to make sure they play the music that was requested from the bride and groom.

I know that sometimes when the DJ sees people aren't dancing to the must play music he wants to change it and Frank says no... because their ultimate goal is to please the bride and groom and if they want something played they really make sure to play it.

It's like a catch 22.... if they play it then the bride is happy but no one is dancing... and if they don't play it and people dance then the bride is going to whine about not having her songs played. I'm not saying that's def your friend... but that does happen A LOT!!

Personally I saw FM in person back in Feb... and they did a PHENOMINAL JOB!! I didn't know it was them... and FH was saying... I think this is our DJ... i sounds like Frank. I brushed FH off. The people at our table to talking about how good the music is too. Then when the garter toss came around, i realized that it was in fact Frank our MC from FM!!! They really did a great job!!

I think all in all... it's great to have a must play list... but it shouldn't be soo many songs that the DJ doesn't have some free range to be able to read the crowd and play songs for them to dance to. Sometimes brides give a must play list that dictates the whole party... and that's not exactly why you shop around for a good DJ.. you should book someone that you are comfortable with... they are the music experts not us.

I met with Frank a few days ago and the meeting went VERY well!! I gave him a list of songs... I called them 'direction' songs... so he could get a feel for what type of music we like... but I only put stars next to the ABSOLUTE MUST Play songs.... and the others were just for directional purposes (and he can play them too at his discretion). I think sometimes the professional needs to be let alone to be just that, the professional. JMHO. I'd never go to a doctor office and tell him how to run things... because i don't know much about that field. I know that's a slightly extreme example... but that's how I see it.

Personally.... after having seen them live and with a crowd that was on the dance floor all night long... I can honestly say.... you really are in good hands!!!

Yup!! I sure as sh!t would sit down is HANSON or NSYNC was playing. As would most straight guys!!!!

And I TOTALLY agree, that seems VERY teeny bopper/sweet 16ish.

This is why I think you shouldn't give the DJ a huge list. Give the DJ key songs you cant live without and let them do their job and fell what the crowd likes.

We had FM for our wedding on 10/09 (Paulie MC, Brett DJ, and Pat Davis percussionist) and they were PHENOMENAL. The dance floor was packed most of the night (other than dinner , cake cutting and special dances!). i like to think we picked a good array of requested songs but they read the crowd and added their own stuff into the mix as well!

We got SO many compliments on how great they were and they especially loved the touch of the percussionist. Just wanted to make some people feel better :)

And P.S......Hanson and NSync, really?? lol, Brett told me he usually DJ's for Frank, so he was most likely the DJ and you will have him too......I REALLY cannot see him playing that stuff unless the bride made him LOL

I personally will leave it to the DJ. They have been doing it for years and know what makes people move.

same thing with photographer. I cringe when people have 5 billion must haves. two or three and protraits ok but if you hired someone, trust them to do the job.

Ditto! They know what they are doing!! There are a few songs I might put on my Do NOT play list, but other than that, they get free reign!

I've been to 3 weddings (including my own!) in the past month where FM was the dj... All 3 ROCKED!! FM brides have no reason to worry!

Watermill is lovely. I have been there before.

As for FM. Yea, like Kerri says. He really aims to please the bride and groom and go with what they requested. At our wedding EVERYONE was dancing and raved about the music. We played alll types of music that appealed to everyone. I had someone request the electric slide and Frank came up to me and asked if it was okay to play bc it wasn't on our list.

BTW, Hansen and NSunc are not wedding friendly LOL.

I used FM & you can give a list or suggestions of what you want etc. I had them & let me just say my dance floor was packed the entire time & we know how big the dance floor in Fox Hollow Garden Terrace room is! Don t let that scare you. Make sure you discuss with them what you want & dont want at your final meeting. All is good!
