I went to a wedding this weekend and...

I was up in Toronto at one of my closest friend`s wedding. I wanted to let you in on a bit of it because as a rather neurotic bride-to-be, it gave me a little perspective (I won`t post any vendor names, seeing as how that wouldn`t be very useful, but if NEED to know, email me and I`ll do a little sleuthing.) First, the bride looked absolutely stunning. It`s that elation that radiates and makes certain brides (all brides?) heartbreakingly beautiful. Her train got absolutely filthy during pictures, and the rest of the bridesmaids and I went scurrying around trying to wipe it off, keep it off the damp grass (to no avail), but during the reception, I never once noticed any smudge (maybe she smiled it away ;) That`s just the way it went all day, the wedding coordinator at the church was snappy and almost rude (esp. for outside the NYC area ! ;), the best man couldn`t fish the ring out of his pocket, the bride put the ring on her husband`s RIGHT hand, the photographers were irritating and took nearly two hours for posed pics in the middle of a very long day, the flower girl was too scared/tired/hungry to smile, the DJ was corny, and one of the bridesmaid kept making snippy little comments. All of these little 'disasters' that compounded into one of the lovliest days of my life, and hopefully the bride`s. I think it was the all the family (she has a very warm, loving family, immediate and extended) and friends -- some old and some new. I appreciate my guest list more now, and I find myself taking people off that 'ought' to be invited and replacing them with people I truly love, but would not normally be invited in light of our limited guest list. Then again it could have been the bride herself, who though crazy and stressed out for weeks, never took it out on the people around her. Never made her bridesmaids feel like little slaves. One last note, she was so thoughtful about the bridesmaid dresses. On sale for $100 Canadian, whatever shoes we liked, neutral in color, and attractive. My fiancee absolutely made me blush with the way he looked at me in that dress. It gives me a lot of hope for my wedding in June. Keep focused on what`s important and it will all come together. P.S. On a strange little side note, that lovely day I heard more horror stories about brides and weddings than`s posted on ettiquettehell.com -- INCLUDING the bride who kept running to the bathroom and FORGOT TO WIPE HER NOSE, our make-up artist divorced her husband of six years and was rather bitter and definitely ANTI marriage, the bride who left her husband and four-year old daughter six months into their marriage and the like... BRUTAL! And I can`t believe people told these stories on her wedding day! Whatever.
