ok so this is what he offered.

the package was $2750 + gratuity = about $3300
which would include

trio jazz band for ceremony & cocktail hour
5-6hours of music they said they are flexible with time
a DJ and a MC in tuxes
a dancer/motivator
bubble/fog machine
lighting
party favors
my MC will coordinate my ceremony (telling us when to walk in(Bridal party, us, parents, seating everyone while the band plays)

does this seem really expensive? I was only think of paying like 1000-2000 for a music package... their 2000 package just includes 5 hour music, MC & DJ in tux, and basic lighting..

what are you girls paying and what are you guys getting???

Honestly, we are paying a lot less...BUT we are also not having a motivator party favors, or a fog machine...so I am unsure whether or not that is what it should cost for those items

Lighting is very expensive, and honestly, for lighting, a jazz band, dancer, etc., all that for $2750 sounds fine to me. If it's a lot more than you wanted to pay, decide which extras you can do without; maybe they'll negotiate a unique package for you.

To put things in persepective: all I want from my DJ is for him to play good music so people dance! He's great; I've seen him DJ in clubs. And I'm paying about one-third of what you are.

we are paying about 1300...but we also are really getting a basic package...DJ and MC...lighting...and small plasma screen to display pictures...pretty basic, so maybe what they are charging you is really reasonable...but it is more than you were hoping to pay, so maybe like you said you can cut out some stuff that you would not mind leaving out...also ours includes cocktail hour music

From the wording you used, based on what I know about the DJ business and my DJ experience, it seems as if this company is slightly outdated. I mean, the MC always introduces the BP, so that isn't something worth more money. A fog machine isn't anything more since they generally aren't used anymore. The DJ/MC BETTER be wearing tuxes, that's not an added bonus either. I think you should look around..something doesn't sound right. Don't be confused though, DJ's are pricey now because of their high-tech equipment, lighting shows and plasma screens. I've seen some DJ's and Bands range from 2,000-10,000 dollars!!

That seems about right, we're paying close to that without the jazz band.. I think it would bring us to the same price acutally

word of advice.. i woudnt do fog machine. my friend kept telling her DJ she DID NOT want it and they ended up doing it anyway. but A LOT of her pics got messed up

for instance.. when the bridal party was walking through the pics are all dark and smokey because of the machine

You have a lot in that package, I do not think it is to much, especially you are having lighting. That only is 1500. Tha is not bad at all. I was going to have a 3 piece band and he quoted me at 4600.

Re: I went to go meet with a DJ company (but I think its alittle expensive..) thoughts please?

for all you get its a good price. Also i agree about the fog machine, and also think about whether you really want a dance/motivator, i think you can do without that. And if you want to save even more you can also do without the party favors, really not needed at all.

And yeah the whole point of an MC is for him to announce the bridal party and announce other things, otherwise what would be the point of him even being there since you have a dj to play the music. Its not supposed to be extra for them to speak.

I think the Maitre'd also coordinates where the bridal party should stand once they're introduced...I could be wrong aout this, but at some RH that's part of the maitre'd's job
