I went with my friend today to have her babyseats installed.

Her husband and my FH were at a football clinic, so I went with her and drove one of the cars.

This might be a no brainer for most, but she and I did not know this - if you go to have volunteers install your carseats, you should bring the actual seat and not just the base(s). We did not and the people were basically laughing at my friend for not knowing that. They were nice about it, but laughing non the less.

I thought this bit of information might be helpful to at least one person. So no one here has those people laughing at them!

Go to this site and you can find a local car seat inspection location. Try not to use a car dealership. IMO, it's hit or miss. We went to one in New Hyde Park and the guy had no idea how to properly install our SnugRide. It's only the most popular infant seat. He said it didnt fit and we should get a different car seat. I figured it out myself. HTH

I don't know why they would laugh at your friend, that's pretty rude. I could see how she could make that mistake as a first time parent who has yet to get experience with the car seat.

FYI, They don't inspect them at city firehouses. My DH works for the FDNY and he told me they don't.

most police stations have a few cops who have certification to install car seats. Call your local precint and ask about it.
Since Rob and I are Aux police officiers, we knew about this program...and I had the officier install the seat in our car.

IT is well worth the piece of mind!

ALSO- ask at Babies r US, usually one of the staff members is certified to do this. I attended a seminar at the LI childrens fair and the speaker worked for BRU and told me about this program.
