I won a free flatware set from Oneida!!

I won a free flatware set from Oneida!!

So I got an email that I won a Oneida flatware set that retails for $1200!!!

I filled out the raffle at the Macy's Sip and Scan event in Herald Square. I have never won anything before!! (that retails for that much)

The catch is that I would have to pay taxes on the prize earnings which I think could be a couple of hundred bucks...

Isn't worth spending money on a free set of fancy utensils if we can get one from our registry without spending any money??
(We're not really fancy people...I don't know if I need a 66 piece stainless steel set with serving stuff)

I just don't want to regret it if I don't take it...I just should, right?

find out how much the tax is (def.) and then make your desicion...

It would be a little more than $100, right?

I'd take it and remove it from the registry. Also, see of Macy's will eat the tax

Don't you just have to deal with the gift tax? Once you do your taxes at the end of the year?

Congrats, Rebecca!!! I'd definately find out how much the tax is and decide based on that, especially if it's flatware that you're not sure you'll be using.
