My restaurant provides me with a cake but its covered in whipped cream and not icing. I am not crazy with the way the cake looks. The cake I really want is $600 and I cant really justify spending so much when I already have a free cake. 1st cake is the one they are giving(I can make some changes to it and maybe add some flowers) 2nd is the one I like (it covered in icing and will be only 3 tier) I didn't have the tasting yet.
Sorry the 1st picture is not posting, so they are both in an album. TIA.

Re: icing or whipped cream?
i like how the second one looks but i also feel like the whipped cream one might taste better. i often feel like the icing on cake is way too thick and takes away from the cake.

I had the same problem with the bakery that is associated with my RH. I paid an extra $150 for fondant and square layers. In the end, it's what I want so I didn't mind spending the extra money.
Is there any way you can upgrade? Do they offer that? Does the restaurant make the cake or do they work with a bakery? If they work with a bakery, then talk to the bakery and see what you can upgrade.
They work with a bakery. They did offer an upgrade. Thanks, I might try that.

Our cake had whipped cream...I personally like the taste of fondant but i know most people pick it off...so I couldnt see spending a crazy amount of money on something that would get picked of lol.
Our whipped cream cake looked just fine! Pics in album

Re: icing or whipped cream?
Personally I don't like the look of cakes that are seperated like the first one.
However I like you could not justify spending the extra money on cake to get fondant that most people pick off.
Try a middle compromise -- buttercream instead of whipped and maybe something simpler then what you posted as your second picture.
Here is my cake. Was it my dream cake no, was it nice, serve its purpose and taste good -- yes.

And best of all it was included at the RH.
Thanks. Your cake looks great

I love the 2nd one but if you dont have the budget then go for the 1st.
I also lovethe 2nd one. Thats the thing, we have the budget for it. Just dont want to spend extra on the cake and instead spend the money on something else.
is there a compromise that can be reached with them like it wont look exactly like the 2nd but will be similar for less money? See if you can knock them down to 400-500 and if its that I would do it.

Thanks. Ill try that as soon as the guy gets back from his vacation on August 2. If it doesnt work, maybe ill just take away the separation on the 1st cake. Add some roses to the top.

I love #2. Can your RH maybe do #1 without the columns and decorate it how you want without the pink flowers?

Yea, I think they can do that.
Maybe you can ask them to get rid of the columns and the swirly design, make it more plain and you can add real flowers to it.

Thanks. To be honest I hate the columns. I will definitely remove them.
