ideas center pieces for school dinner dance

This is a bit off topic but maybe you all can help! Our elementary school is having a dinner /dance next week to kick off the celebration of our 50th year. I was just asked to make the center pieces for the tables. I am going to have to make about 50 of them. I could get some of my students to help. Any easy ideas out there... Since I only have a week, they cannot be too time consuming. No glass, for the safety of the kids.
Also, I will have a small budget and use of our art materials. I normally would recycle items to to this, but I really do not have that kind of time. I thinking something gold, for 50 years. Or, maybe different center pieces - going on the theme of the decades 1950's 60's ...

what about egg container flowers/tulips? :
you cut the different sections of a cardboard egg container...the kids can paint and/or glitter them...and stick a pipe cleaner into the bottom...put a few together in a decorated milk container bottom...filled with plaster or something to hold them in (pepples from the playground?)


or


tissue paper flowers...cut out strips of different colored tissue paper and have the kids glue them onto something like a straw....

I was also thinking of doing some kind of tissue flower. I was thinking of using gold tissue, but that might look silly. Maybe I will use white tissue flowers and have the kids make gold vases .

If you have time for the mess and don't mind the mess you can do something with paper mache- very cheap. You can have them make little piñatas in different shapes promoting the decades like one could be a big record for the 50's another a peace sign for the 70's things like that. They love working with paper mache.

Or you can do the paper flowers from tissue paper. They are quite easy to do and very inexspensive and you can make cute arrangement for each table.

You can also take glass jars or bottle rip masking tape put that all over the jar in any pattern and then take shoe polish and put it on it. It makes a pretty vase.

I have done all of the above crafts with the Spanish club, so I know they are easy. I am sorry if they are not what you are looking for but they are all I could think of. (I guess my head is always thinking of Spanish crafts)
