We're planning on having no dancing at the reception. To fill in the time I have thought about 2 or 3 songs from people who I know. But then what comes next? Has anyone attended or is planning a reception without dancing? I need any ideas and suggestions.
Please help! Thanks!!

Re: Ideas for a wedding with no dancing???
One of the girls on here who got married not too long ago did something like that. They went with a casino theme. Someone else will know her name but I'd check out her review when you get her user name. It looked like a lot of fun!

I was just going to metion that. That was Kara (kittythestray). She did have dancing but also had gaming tables which looked very cool. Check out her review on the BR board.

Is there a reason why you don't want any dancing at the reception?

Re: Ideas for a wedding with no dancing???
would you be willing to have some sort of entertainment if there's no dancing? like a singer, a band, something like that that people could listen to & enjoy or watch while they're eating? Just some nice background music would be nice while your guests mingled & chatted.

You might want to make the reception area more of a louge with cocktail tables and couches, etc. This way people can mingle comfortably. You might still want to have some sort of band or music in the background.

The reason why we aren't having dancing is for religious reasons. But we did agree to have a first dance, mother son, father daughter and last dance. Our guests are a mixture of church and family.

We are looking into background live music as we eat. But we also need something to fill in the time afterwards. I am still looking.

Hmmmm..... You can have a slideshow. That will eat up some time & people will enjoy it.
Maybe hire a nice string quartet?
I have seen people have old fashioned photo booths at weddings. That might be fun

Definitely do a slideshow! Collect lots of photos of you and FH growing up, your families and friends over the years, leading up until now and put music to it. That's what we're doing, and its one of my favorite parts of the whole wedding. I went to one where they had a slideshow and it made the whole night. Like myself and lance, the couple had been together a long time, so go back as far as you can to make it even more memorable!

I don't know what exactly you are looking to do, but I've seen people hire comedians or impersonators to entertain the crowd. Also, another bride, I can't remember who, but I remember she had her wedding at the Bourne Mansion hired some performers for her CH to make it a little different. Maybe something like that?
