Ok FH and I just decided we are going to go to Boston tomorrow (he's sick of work and I start working Tuesday) and stay there a couple of days. So now I have this afternoon to plan this all out by tomorrow morning. Recommendations of things to do, places to go, bars, clubs, museums, sight seeing-anything! Can be outside of Boston too. Thanks!!

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
have you been there before? if not you'll want to at least see Faneuil Hall at Government Center (outdoor shops/restaurants/bars in the heart of town). Also may want to check out Harvard Square (same kind of stuff)

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
Quincy Market, Take the redline into Cambridge and walk around Cambridge Square, there are the Harvard Art Museums, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum. It's across the street from the Museum of Fine Art, but behind it. Go to the public gardens, Newbury Street is great for shopping and art galleries and stuff, there's the aquairium, but I wasn't impressed with it. There's TONS to do. I woudl take public trasportation if you can, though, the construction is brutal.

Take a walk through beacon hill - where all the wealthy homes and work down charles street between cambridge and beacon st - nice little shops not as mobbed as newbury
My favorite places to eat are Zuma's (mexican) in Fenuil hall and McCormick's (seafoo/american) - and the Hungry Eye on Charles St - french food - not too expensive - it is really nice inside - it is set in an old house As for hotels - i sa don't stay at the omni parker -old but really small rooms-
need anymore help - i live in boston so FM
oh one of the classic places to eat is the Oyster House - by fenuil hall
oh fun bars Hong Kong - by fenuil hall for Scorpian bowls Ned Divine's above fenuil hall The harp - by fleet center
Oh just so you know fenuil hall and quincy market and haymarket are all the same area
also go to the north end and get a nice snack at mike's bakery - the italian area

The duck tours are a lot of fun and you get to see a lot of the city. They are WWII amphibean vehicles and drive on the street and the river. I did one a few years ago and really enjoyed it.
There is a nice seafood restaurant called Skip Jacks. I can't remember the location. There is also a Cheesecake Factory (2 I believe) if you like it.
You could also check out Chowhound for other restaurant recommendations.

We used to go to Skip Jack's all the time when we went up to visit my brother!!

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
If you like history, check out the USS Constitution and walk the Freedom Trail (it's a brick/red paint line through the town that takes you to historical sites - there should be maps around Faniuel Hall area)
Also good if you like history - Lexington and Concord, not far from the city, and Walden Pond is out near Concord too.
If you want to trek further, Salem - highly recommend the House of Seven Gables tour.

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
In that case definately check out the Freedom Trail - it takes a few hours and is well worth it. Freedom Trail
We lived in Arlington, and Patriot's Day was great - we got up pre-dawn to go see the reenactment of the battle at Lexington Green, and visted the North Bridge in Concord and other historical sites more than a few times. It was the best part about living there.

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
Harvard square is nice to walk around as well as downtown crossing (the orange line if using the subway). From downtown crossing you can pretty much walk to fanueil hall for shopping and a snack. I think most of the restaurants over there are over-rated. The aqaurium is a must as well as Mike's pastry for dessert (they have a website). My favorite restaurant is Charley's on newbury street. As far as night life, there are lots of cool bars around copley place and the prudential. Have fun! I love Boston. OOH- definitley check out the esplanade and the omni science center.

Re: Ideas for Boston Trip
DH just reminded me - at the National Park office right near Faniuel Hall they have guided tours of the Freedom Trail that are free, and very good.

Museum of Fine Art Walk down Newberry St Fanieul Hall and Quincy Market (there's a great steakhouse there..something '3' - DH loved it) USS Constitution Duck Tour (half land half sea and lots of fun) Harvard campus Cheers bar (doesn't look like the set though)
If you have that much time...maybe one day you can drive out to Cape Cod.

Whale watching in Newburyport, about 40 minutes or so north of Boston. I went about 5 years ago and it was amazing.
