Re: identity theft

yep - happened to me. if you think you are at all, contact the three credit bureaus immediately to put a fraud notice on your acct. they will not issue credit to anyone using your name immediately.

cool thanks! i will pass the info along.
problem is, someone else has his ss# and we're not sure if they've used it!

Re: identity theft

Definitely get all three of his credit reports asap. You can get them online and print them right out. And notify them to flag the his name and ss# before anything happens. This way if anyone tries anything, they'll be caught immediately.

Go here and you can get all three reports in one..

Yep. Twice! FM me if you want more info! Tell hime to get on it quick. Could cause some major problems. My credit reports are flagged now and it is a big pain for me to do anything credit related! Also messes with your FICO scores which can take 7 years to fix even if it is fraud.

Re: identity theft

no prob. tackle it before it becomes an issue.
it's a royal pain in the a** to clear up once the damage is done.

Re: identity theft

How do you think they got his SS number?

Re: identity theft

its not too hard to get a ss#...one of my girlfriends had access to some directory of ss#'s through work, all you needed was a birthdate. My best friend was a victim of identity theft TWICE! This last time they shut off her phone, got a new credit card in her name -- did a whole bunch of damage.

Get your credit reports asap and call your companies and password everything so that no one can call pretending to be you.

Good luck!

Re: identity theft

wow. this is creepy!
yes eroxgirl! alot of companies (including one he used to work for) have access to that system that you mentioned.
his new job did a background check on him and it came up that there were two names under his SS#.
the other is some very hard to pronounce (presumably foreign) name.
and the guy lives in the neighborhood.
i hope there hasn't been much damage. we want to buy a house!!

Re: identity theft

i was the same way... thinking 'how did this happen to me?' but when you think of it, your social is practically everwhere. it's on old school files, any job you ever worked for, every credit card company you have ever applied to, every tax document, etc. and all you need is one person in search of a 'good' social to ruin your life.

If the guy is foreign he may have gotten it to get a job that pays 'on the books'.
Call your local social security office (you should be able to find your local office on the web or phone book) and see if there is any way they can figure out if he is getting money put into social security from a job he is not working at. Soc. Security issues an 'annual report' of your earnings too - he should ask for it.

Good luck!
