IE experts! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Our computer has been plagued by an un-godly amount of spyware and pop-ups. We have a tool bar that pops up on the bottom every time we open a new browser.

If we remove IE and re-install it, would this solve the problem? Is there a way to save all of our favorites and address books?

We've tried spybot and adaware and it didn't help.

I'm at my whit's end. HELP!!!

Your computer is probably beyond spyware removal... and will need to be totally re-installed from scratch.

Uninstalling and re-installing IE will not correct this problem.

The easiest thing to do is go to the start button, click on settings & then control panel. Go into the icon that states 'add/remove progrmas' There will be a list of all the programs in the computer....Look for the name of the toolbar & click remove. This is one of the easiest ways to clean out unwanted programs. You can delete any program that is unwanted from this feature....After all clean, restart your computer...This will solve lots of problems without uninstalling IE or anything major...

After you do that you should run Adware, Spybot and spy sweeper. Do you have a firewall on your computer and a pop up blocker?

I would avoid using IE as soon as possible and download what I se as a browser. It is called Slim browser. It is an excellent progrma and I have never recieved one pop up while using it. It has a built in pop up blocker.

We've removed many files that we thought looked suspicious. Everything else looks normal. We do have a firewall and pop-up blocker.

If we download a new browser, is there a way to keep all of our favorites? Or do we have to start over.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Most good viruses or spyware are intelligent enough to re-install the application automatically if it senses somebody is trying to remove it. This may just be a temporary solution.

A different brand browser may work... but some websites may not load properly. The only way to move favorites from one browser to another is to know where they store the favorites. You have to be somewhat technical to do this properly. I only use IE so I wouldn't know where the other programs store theirs.

In XP... the favorites are stored in %userprofile%\Favorites

This is interesting. I never knew this (since I have only used IE)... makes sense though.
