If FH’s father is deceased...

If FH’s father is deceased...

how would you suggest wording the invites?

I am thinking to just say 'together with their parents'. But if we decide to mention parent names, what is the proper etiquette?

Has you FH mother remarried? if not and you decide to put parents names what about:

Mr and Mrs brides parents
request the honor of your presence
at the wedding their daughter

Brides name

and

John Smith

Son of Mary Smith and the Late Robert Smith

Or something like that.

His mom did not re-marry. Also, both parents are contributing to the wedding costs, but not paying for everything.

I like that the best if we go with mentioning parents names.

otherwise it will be something like:

Because you have shared in our lives
by your friendship and love, we
bride
&
groom
together with our parents

invite you to share
the beginning of our new life together
when we exchange marriage vows

Date
time
location
blah blah blah

I asked my Fh about this, he lost his father 2 years ago and he said he would like it to read

Groom
son of Raquel and Juan Doe

He said he will always be his fathers son, alive or not so he doesn't believe in putting it as 'the late'.

For the programs we are using 'in spirit' because it's for introductions as the procession comes in.

I agree with that. but my FH said that for folks on my side who don't know him well may ask 'where's your Dad'. So he said if we do go with names of parents he would like 'late' mentioned. I agree with your FH though. I would rather not say 'late'.

I think it is more appropriate to use 'together with our parents' because it encompasses ALL parents on both sides regardless of whether or not they have passed on.

I have given this subject some thought since my father will not live to see my wedding. I hate to be morbid, but inviting is an action - an action that cannot be carried out by a person who is deceased. My father will be remembered and honored in other ways.

I am so sorry to hear that about your dad! and thank you so much for sharing your view with me.

My DH's father is also deceased so I spent some time on this. 'Etiquette' says you should not list the deceased parent on the invite. We put son of Mrs. First Name Last Name.

I had the same issue. We used 'in spirit 'instead of late. so it read

Together with their parents
Emily
daught of Mr. and Mrs. XXXX

and John XX

son of Carole and in sprit John XXXX Sr.

request the pleasure of your company....

Someone suggested this on the boards and we thought it was nice way to include everyone

Thank you very much.

I do happen to think that writing 'in spirit...' is a very appropriate and respectful way to honor someone's memory. I don't think, however, my mother would want that for us. I have to do what makes her feel most comfortable.

This whole experience has taught me one very important thing. Treasure EVERY minute with family. I am losing one love of my life in my father and things are coming full circle as I get to have a new love and family in FH. It seems the best and worst of my life is happening in tandem. My only regret is that FH and Daddy never got to cultivate a relationship as dad has been (and still is) in the hospital for half of our relationship - over 5 months. They would have been two peas in a pod.
