If I may be permitted a little vent?

If I may be permitted a little vent?

Today, I get an educational letter from my medical insurance co., the second one I've received. I guess they keep close tabs on when they receive a medical claim, which they have not received very many, because we cannot afford copays, with my husband not having much work. And it really rubs me the wrong way, for them to point out how important it is for me to have this lab work, and that eye exam, because I'm diabetic. WELL, lab work costs an arm and a leg, and my plan does NOT ALLOW FOR EYE EXAMS!!!!!! I called and explained, 'nothing personal' but my plan does not include eye exams, nor can we afford co-pays right now, and I'm a retired RN, so I already know about what's important for people with diabetes, and please do not send any educational letters again, and basically, don't bother me unless and until, you cover 100% of everything!!!!!! Now I feel better!!! Thanks!!!!! Mary MOB

PS I have a bit of history with this bazillioneth insurance co. that my husband's bosses have changed to for me. I've been ticked off at them ever since they said they won't cover my brand of test strips, which are more cost effective for me, because one needs only a bitty drop of blood to get results. With their brand, I was wasting so many diabetic test strips, and the insurance only pays for 50 strips at a time, not even 60, which is a month's supply. My solution, is I don't check my blood anymore!!!! Can't afford it!!! Test strips are very expensive!!!! Ok, now that I've probably bored everyone, I'll go. Thanks for reading!!!

oh no Mary.....

you have to check you blood glucose levels regularly to prevent the tons of health problems that can come from uncontrolled diabetes.....

but keep calling and going after the insurance companies, but please do not sacrifice your health to save money

insurance companies suckkkkkk and i am sooo sorry you have to deal with this in addition to dealing with your health problems

Hey, Amanda!!!!! Thanks for your input. I am losing weight, about 15 lbs. so far, so that should do a lot for my blood sugar. I know when I was diagnosed in 1999, and I went down to 125, my blood sugar levels were 'normal', along with blood pressure/cholesterol levels. So, I'm doing something to promote my better health, that doesn't cost as much as test strips, and lab work. I do see my Dr. every three months for a diabetic checkup. That's the best we can do. Glad to hear a vent. I hate insurance companies!
My mom and brother are diabetic as well, and ironically my mom is an LPN!

Just make sure you are taking care of yourself!

Hi, Michelle!!!! Sorry to hear about your Mom and Brother having diabetes too!!!! It's a pain!! My Mom and Brother are also diabetic. When I first found out, I sat in a chair and cried!!! Many people just don't understand diabetes, and how serious it can be, kinda like the fibromyalgia our Son has, since his auto accident!! People look at us, and we look fine, therefore we are fine!!! My Husband just doesn't get it, not that he's mean or anything, but I can tell he just doesn't understand. It's tough being a diabetic, for all ages, especially when our world revolves around food!!! Interestingly, I was just watching TV, and a commercial came on from a Co. that provides diabetic testing supplies to those on Medicare. Well, they are now saying in their commercials, 'Don't let the economy affect your health.' So, the economy must be affecting the health industry as well, and people are scimping, to pay more important bills, like a roof over their head. I personally have major issues with insurance too!!!! But I won't get it into that!! Blessings on your Mom and Brother!!!!! Mary MOB
