I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a band, but we are paying on our own, and we just cannot afford it.

Actually, BOTH. My friend did that and she got the best of both worlds -- it was great!

I had a DJ and not because of the cost factor, that is just my preference. I hired a steel drum band for cocktail hour.

I would still go with a DJ. I'm personally not crazy about bands.
