is it appropriate to send the family baked goods? (This is a seperate issue from my pineapple-coconut cake.)

Re: If someone dies...
I would only do that if I was going over to their house for a condolence call. If I just wanted to send something, it would probably be flowers.

yes, it's appropriate-they most likely won't be thinking about food shopping, yet they'll have a lot of guests over....when my grandfather died my cousin's wife sent over a cold cut platter and rolls, and a cake...and everyone ate something. It was great to not have to think about it....

I think it's very thoughtful. When my grandmother died Mr Boots' mother and grandmother came to my house with enough food to feed an army. My mother was so relieved that she didn't have to worry about cooking for a night or two.

When Tim's mom passed away, my job sent us a food basket (nuts, crackers, cookies, etc).

Personally, I think any gesture of sympathy and support will be appreciated. Whether they eat it all or not, they know that you are thinking of them, and that is what's really important.

Alot of people did that for my grandfather too When my grandmother passed away.... it was so thoughtful, put our minds at ease that he wouldnt forget to eat (he has very low blood sugar) and would have easily accesible food for that time that follows it when youre just, really, in a complete daze.
i do think its one of the most practical things you can do in that situation

Oh yes, when my brother passed on, we recieved many baked good and other foods, either in baskets or they would bring them over to see how we were doing...To be honest, I would try and bring something either unique or something they are going to need because I tell you we got about a million bagels, brownies and cold cuts and our house could fit no more!!!!!! It is a very nice gesture though.....

I think it's great. Any time I've had the unfortunate edxperience of afamily member passing, I've always appreciated the food much more than the flowers. because who wants to cook? In Jewish familis you don't send flowers and it's traditional to send food. EVERYONE does. So I say go for it.

Re: If someone dies...
When my grandma passed, food is always comfort. We were so busy preparing funeral arrangments and entertaing relatives that anyone who brought over food was a God send. We didn't feel like cooking and didn't want to go out and eat. I think it is a nice idea.
