Ours is starting at 7 but I think we're putting 6:30 in the invite. I figure they won't be too mad about waiting if they're getting some champagne and strawberries, right?

If you put 6:45, everyone will know that you're really starting at 7, and will arrive at 7. If you put 6:30, people will get there by 6:45. Fashionably late, you know.

Re: If the ceremony starts at 7pm...
I would put 7, but I have a reason!! My wedding was supposed to start at 3 pm. I had 3 pm on the invites. Well, because of things that happened I wound up being 30 minutes late to my wedding. So thinking from a guest point of view now, if you put 6:30 or 6:45, and god forbid you ran late for some reason, like I did (which was out of my control, crappy limo company), you might get some really antsy guests that may get restless and walk out to go use a phone or smoke if you run a little late. I guess what I am saying is, if you are going to put an earlier time, make sure you start on time. You don't want people running back in while you are walking down the isle!! Just a different prospective to keep in mind!!

My ceremony starts at 2 pm and I put 2 pm on my invites. I really want it be on time and have the ceremony start at 2! I went to a wedding last year and it started about 1/2-1 hour late...I thought it was very annoying...JMO!

My photographer was telling me that he shot a wedding where the bride was THREE HOURS late to her ceremony 'just because.' Her poor guests! I hope they had lots of champagne to keep them busy

I'm starting at 3:30 and putting 3:30 on the invites.
The pastor at the church was very clear about starting at the time on the invites and even makes us give him a copy of them so he knows we're not 'inflating' the time!!

Re: If the ceremony starts at 7pm...
Where are you getting married? At the reception hall? I know both of mine had the invite time 30 minutes before the ceremony time. If you are having it at your hall, you should probably ask them. They usually will pass out champagne or mineral water or other refreshments to make the time pass. This way, it starts on time, and not late, when half the guests are still arriving.
If you're having the ceremony at a religious institution, ask them.

Re: If the ceremony starts at 7pm...
i think you should put the actual time for the reason boop said. my dh was in a wedding party in april and the groomsman and groom were coming from brooklyn to queens on a sat afternoon the service was 2:00 and the imo didnt come and get them untill 2:00 o clock. they were almost 1 and a half hours late to the church. the people attending were getting pretty annoyed because the church was hot and stuffy. the limo company was a friend of the brides family see she should have listened to me and used ultimate class

Re: If the ceremony starts at 7pm...
I think you should put the time the ceremony starts - 7:00pm. I have been a guest at dozens of weddings and I always get to the ceremony location at least 20-30 mintues before the stated time. Therefore, if you put 6.30 I would be there closer to 6.00 (and I have never been the first to arrive) and will be waiting for close to an hour for the ceremony to start - the first 30 minutes are me b/c I wanted to be there when it starts, the next 30 minutes are on the couple.
I'll be honest and say I would be really angry to get there only to find out that I was tricked into getting there earlier to accomodate people that cannot make a point of being punctual for an occasion as important as a wedding ceremony.

The hall will do this if you pay them and you have to be find out about weddings ending before yours starts - they will need time to set up, etc.
