If you and FH are 100% paying for the wedding yourselves
Are you still planning on exchanging gifts?
I was looking into this 60' flat screen for FH (which we'd both benefit from)
but my mom thinks it's ridiculous after spending over $50k on a wedding why the heck are we buying eachother gifts?

well i already did bpics but my fh really wants this crazy expensive watch and he gave me money towards it but i think its soo stupid to waste the money on it but i know he really really wants it....so im going to try but if it comes down to paying off the RH or his watch, the RH wins.

We're not even paying for the wedding entirely ourselves (my parents are contributing) but we still said no wedding gifts to eachother.
Our honeymoon will be something we can enjoy together and at this point, I feel like having one less thing to pick out/pay for near crunch time is a gift on its own.
What will end up happening is we'll probably shop together on our honeymoon and we can buy something then...with our wedding gift money

yeah that's a good point.
My mom pointed out we're going to 5 different countries on the honeymoon (which we're also paying for ourselves). And we'll prob buy something nice in each one. So instead of spending thousands on a TV and other gifts.. to put it towards the honeymoon. I agree with that but I also feel like it's traditional for the bride to get some piece of jewelry and he groom to get a gift like a watch or cufflinks or somehting.

since you guys are paying for it 100%, i don't think it's your mom's place to say. you guys know what you can budget in. if you can afford it, i think it's nice.

Oh, I definitely see the sentimentality of it and of course presents are always nice! If FH were to drop money on some jewelry for me, I would not turn it away but it's at the bottom of our list of priorities at this point.
If budget allows, it's a nice touch!
I forgot to mention before that I am doing B pics but probably giving it to him for valentines day

I didn't mean it like that.. she was just giving me her opinion, like I asked you girls too.
It's not a matter of the money - it was a matter of spending so much on a wedding that the wedding should be gift enough to us and we don't need little trinkets or gifts.
Which is why I wanted to see if other people paying for everything are still exchanging gifts or considering the wedding itself the gift.

We are. FH says he knows what he is getting me but I dont know what to get for him yet. FH said it is something I wanted before we started planning and gave up when we did. Im curious

We're paying for it fully - and as someone else said, are considering the honeymoon as our gift to each other.

Eh, we probably aren't. I'd rather our gift to one another be a fancy dinner on our honeymoon...or maybe a couples massage.

We're not doing it, when I brought it up to FH that people do it, he's like are you crazy? Isn't the ring, wedding and honeymoon enough? He's like I was planning on writing you a note but I don't need you to buy me anything!

Nope, we decided not to exchange gifts. Just don't have the extra cash.
