If you are getting married at the same place as your reception...

I know that a Chatholic Priest will not come and marry you. So I guess this means that you technically didn't make the sacrament of marriage. So my question is...can you raise your children Chatholic? I was talking to a friend yesterday and she said her cousin just had a baby and she was going to the Baptism, and then she told me the story of how the church would not let the Baptism take place until the parents got married in a church. I couldn't believe it and now i'm worried. Anyone else hear of this???????

If the church could have the pole surgically removed from it's tight @ss then I would be getting married in one. But bc my first marriage is not annulled I am not allowed to be married there. I think God knows what a sh!thead my first husband was and he is very happy we are not together anymore. But the church wants it $$$$$.

I never heard of that but I wouldn't put it past them. I say, worry about that when the time comes.

Well when my friends were baptising my godson, they were married in a civil ceremony because my friend was divorced. The baptism went through, but the priest was pushing them to get married in the church and would even give her assistance for an annulment of her first marriage.

I believe that's false. But at the same time, I don't doubt the church made them do this.

I asked our officiant this question, and he used to be a catholic priest. He said we will be able to raise our children catholic. Our marriage will not exist in the eyes of the catholic church, and we're fine with that. I don't think I want to raise my kids catholic anymore anyway-

The Catholic church keeps losing members because of these strict rules they have. And it seems every parish makes up their own rules as they go along.

After getting married at the reception hall, you can go to the catholic church and have your marriage blessed. It is a short ceremony and no need for precana and then you will be recognized under the Catholic church. I may do it to appease my mother, we will see.

I think you can have your child baptised either way, not sure though. I think it depends on the strictness of your church.

Are you sure we did not marry the same guy?

Anyway, each church is different. I think if you child wants to be catholic, noone should refuse them to be. So, one church may have some restrictions others don't.

I am sure you will find a church who is willing to baptise your children.

My friend married a divorced man (no annulment) with two children while she was pregnant. She had not problem having her daughter baptized. It was suggested that they have the marriage blessed by the church though... to date they haven't done it and her daughter is now attending a catholic pre-school.

I am NOT trying to be a beeoytch, but it is Catholic.

Secondly, I am not baptized, but DH is, I did find a church that would marry us, but since it was too far from our reception hall, so you will find someone to baptize your kids when you have them.

Thirdly, we did have a priest come marry us. He was Catholic, just not Roman Catholic.
