I just spoke with a BM at my RH and they said that I will loose my deposit! So I definitely have to change the date. I will be going over there on Thursday, so hopefully something will work out.

in Suffolk County, i believe you get the full amount back as long as it's 6 months or more before the date.
in Nassau, you get some, i believe .... though you'll get the full amount if you can get someone else to book the day instead of you.

I think it varies depending on your contract. I think most places do keep the deposit though.
After that, mine says if I cancel more than 6 months in advance, they keep one third of estimate costs
cancel 2-6 months, they keep one half,
cancel 1 month - they keep three fourths
cancel within 2 weeks - they keep it all!
That's why I thought long and hard before I committed! This is serious cash!

Yes, or just canceling all together. I don't know if we are going to be able to pay for all the costs of the wedding.

aww i'm sorry! have you tried contacting your bm yet? i've heard plenty of girls say they couldn't afford it and the bm worked with them...like maybe switching to a cheaper day or time of year.

We cancelled with our first place- got back all but $250. It was 8 months or so after booking and 11 months before the wedding date.

I'm so sorry, I went through this 5 years ago.
HOw much is the deposit? Maybe you can apply it to another event and hav your BMs hold your shower there. If they do it on an off day or on a day that isn't booked at this point, it might be reasonable.
Or maybe you can change your wedding date to like, easter, or the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, or another weeknight, so it's an unpopular date, so maybe they can lower your price/minimum.
I would also start advertising around. May is graduation season, so someone might be looking to buy the date for a party.
